The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Oh... you thought Christmas time was the most wonderful time of the year? Well for me, it's Spring Fling... and I'm not even a UA student anymore. Did that stop me from going this year (and will it stop me from going every year for the rest of my life?) of course not, that's foolish to think so.

I work in Chandler so I work closer to Tucson than I live. So Zach drove me to work bright and early in the morning, and then picked me up from work on the way to Tucson. We like wasting no time, miles or gas. We did stop for Canes along the way, but other than that there were no detours.

Once we arrived in Tucson we went to 1320 to meet up with McKenzie and Steph before we headed to Sprang Flang. The not-so-secret secret about Spring Fling is that Friday is the best day to go if you are Mormon (if you aren't Mormon then Sunday is probably the best day to go). On Friday and Sunday you get in free with a student ID, and you can buy a wristband for $30 to get unlimited rides. If you don't have a wristband you have to pay for tickets. A ticket is 50 cents, and most of the good rides are around 14 tickets. And if you are like me and like to ride as many rides as possible... it can get v expensive if I am paying for tickets. So you get your monies worth for the wristband in 2-3 rides at Spring Fling.

So McKenzie, Steph, Zach and I all bought wristbands and went on a few rides, while also trying to be found by some of our friends.

Our first ride, and my favorite ride, was G-Force. It's a swinging pendulum of spinning death, and it makes me crazy... it's so much fun. We happened to get in line just before one of my former students Chase got in line for the ride. We let him cut with us so we could ride together. That guy is FEARLESS and lives for Spring Fling pretty much more than I do.

Eventually Abby and Andy found us. Abby was smart and got a wristband, Andrew was less smart and got 20 tickets, enough to ride the one Mach ride that is crazy. So Zach, Steph, McKenzie, Abby and myself rode a more extreme version of G Force called Insanity, while Andy watched on the sidelines. Afterward Abby, Andy, Zach and Kenzie went in line for Mach... which is an extremely long line because only 8 people can be on at a time. Steph and I wimped out of that one and went and rode a couple others like Disko and the Flying Dutchman. Along the way we ran into Tyler and he hung out with us for awhile. While the four of them were still in line we also found Kara, Brittany, Talia, Ryan and some other guy, so I went with them in a fun house, and Talia and I had a blast discussing our many wedding details (she is getting married a month before me at one of the venues I wanted, crazy!)

Eventually the four brave kids had gone on their ride and we got back together to go on other rides while Andy sat on the sidelines. We went on one ride called Alien Abduction, and its one of those spinning rides where you just stand and the ride spins... this was the first time that I had ever gone on a ride like that... and it was so insane I loved it. It lifted me off the ground and we weren't even strapped in... I swear my cheeks were going to fall off.

We probably went on 6 or 7 more rides, one of them being this teacup-like ride, where you are hanging and spinning around. On this ride, Andy was still on the sidelines, Zach, Abby and I all tried to high five him from where he was outside the gate. It took a few rotations but Zach finally did it... and Andrew got in trouble hahaha but so worth it.

Eventually Steph called it a night, and was super careful and genius and gave her wristband to Andy so he could enjoy some rides. One of those rides being Alien Abduction once again, Iggy Azalea's "Bounce" was being played while we were riding and if I ever get abducted, that is EXACTLY how I need it to happen. It was awesome, and way more intense than earlier... I seriously though my face was going to fall off my face.

We rode more rides and had a grand old time together... but Abby and I's heads and bodies had just enough of all the spinning that was happening so we sat out on the finale ride of G Force and discussed all the fun wedding and sisterly engagement things (don't worry... her sister, not mine haha). Right as the others got off the ride, Spring Fling was closed and it was time for us to go.

S/O to Maddy for getting the squad photo... too bad it was right after Steph had left

After exiting Spring Fling we decided it was a necessity to go to Circle K for some hydration and then we all went back to Kenzie's for the late nights that somehow always happen in Tucson. We stayed up until like 2 or 3 am just chatting and laughing. Kara and Jenny also joined us in this portion of the evening. These are the nights that make me miss Tucson the most.... and the nights that make me the most tired the next day.

The next morning we all slept in, but eventually Steph, Kenzie, Jenny, Zach and I went to Costa Vida lunch and then did a little grocery shopping with Steph at Trader Joes.
After that fun adventure Chastity came over to hang out for a little bit before I had to go take some graduation photos. I don't think I need to blog once again about how fantastic Chastity is.... but I am going to again, because she recently was selected to be EIC at the Daily Wildcat, and I swear there was never anyone in the history of the Daily Wildcat who was more ready to be EIC. She's going to be amazing. After chatting for a little bit at my house, Chastity took me, Zach, Kenzie and Jenny to Twirls for a fun treat. I unfortunately took no pictures with Chastity, but she did take this snapchat so it will have to do:

After twirls Chastity went her separate way, while Zach, Kenzie and Jenny joined me on the adventure of taking Megan's photos! It was quite the adventure taking her photos on a Saturday afternoon at Old Main... there were SO many people! It was interesting trying to avoid being in people's shots while also trying to avoid people getting in your shots! Luckily we made it work pretty good! While we were waiting for Megan to change into her "fountain clothes" I ran into Chastity again who was with Courtney taking Sam's graduation photos (Sam you were lookin' super sharp). They informed me that UAPD was giving thousand dollar fines to anyone who gets caught in the Old Main Fountain... Megan was determined to have her fountain photo so we had my helpers on look out, and we successfully got in and out of the fountain with no cops around to even catch us. It was a total success. The pictures looked awesome, 90% because Megan looked so dang good in all of them. She made taking the photos way easy.

Congratulations to Megan and thanks for letting me take your photos, it was so much fun!

After taking her photos Zach and I hung out for a few more hours with the 1320 Beezies and then we made our way back home. We didn't even leave that late but I was out for pretty much half the car ride because of my lack of sleep. Major shout out to Zach for staying awake and getting us home safe.

Other Life Updates

  • I hosted my second FHE for the ward, as part of my calling. It was Jeopardy... and super easy. But I got a text message thanking me for "stepping up" and putting on a great FHE. I don't think I can call it stepping up since it is my calling,... but hey I will take it.
  • My job is going wonderfully. I am learning all sorts of things about Photoshop that I have never learned before, so I guess this isn't just a filler job after all!
  • My mothers (Pat & Pam) are doing a very excellent job at coming up with these things that I would never think of for a wedding, and for hunting for all sorts of geometric containers and shapes and nonsense! Zach and I are doing a great job of hunting for succulents and falling in love with every kind we see.
  • Zach's cousins from California spent the week at their house last week and the little girl Ava became my best friend. She is the strongest two year in the world and loves to jump all over people and body slam into you... it's both fun and absolutely terrifying.
  • Chastity pointed out that i failed to blog about how I placed for the Society of Professional Journalists Region 11 Mark of Excellence award for a photo I took at the Orlando Vigil in Tucson over the summer. I am so stoked, and so happy that Brett nominated me!
