A Best Friend's Wedding (& Bachelorette Olympics)

Monday August 8
Monday night I went to dinner with Chastity and Laurel to celebrate our survival of the Summer Wildcat. Now we have a two week break (kind of) before the Daily Wildcat starts back up again for the fall. I am excited for some old editors from the spring to come back, but I am excited that most of the summer editors are continuing on in the fall as well. It's going to be a good semester at the Wildcat... but also a really crazy one I am sure.
After going to to dinner with them I went to FHE in hopes to sneak in an interview with my Bishop. Turns out he was pretty much running the FHE, so I couldn't pull him away. Instead of dipping out I decided to stay and participate. Even though pioneer day was in July we played some pioneer associated games like stick pulling, arm/leg wrestling, three-legged races, pie eating contests and that one weird game where you push a giant iron ring with a stick... I don't know what it's called but that what it is. It was actually pretty fun, and I ended up winning the leg wrestling amongst the ladies in my group, so I would call that an accomplishment.

Tuesday August 9
On Tuesday I went to lunch with Chastity and her fall co-editor Michelle. They were meeting to do interviews with potential new reporters, I just didn't have anything to do on Tuesday and all the garages were open on campus due to the storm, so I though I'd use the free parking to just chill in the newsroom. I wrote my final essay for my apprenticeship, I printed out lots of papers for Sadie's bachelorette party, and I even decorated my little photo desk a little bit. That's a big deal for me guys. I have been protesting being at that desk by refusing to decorate. But many people have been making comments about how cool the photo desk could  be, and so I just gave in. I guess that means I will be sticking around at that desk for awhile.
If something else happened on Tuesday, I honestly can't remember. I did pack up my bags for the exciting week that was ahead of me in Mesa, and I finished my essay. An exhilarating day indeed.

Wednesday August 10
Wednesday morning I met with Courtney for some finalization of interviews and photo desk meetings. We are a very efficient team that just gets things done, so I am excited to be working alongside her this semester as co-editors.
After our meeting I went to Sunny Daze for the final apprenticeship class/brunch. Even though Friday was my last work day, Wednesday was my official last day of class, and there's truly no better way to finish a class than with 3 pancakes that are bigger than your face.
After saying goodbye to everyone, I filled up my car with gas and then made my way to Mesa for some bachelorette prep. Until I get my Project Focus job back rolling and until my financial aid comes in, I am pretty much broke, so my mother really pulled through for me for the bachelorette party. Seriously, she was amazing. She bought all the snacks and the drinks, she decorated the house even though I told her she didn't need to, she bought all the extra supplies that I hadn't gotten already. Seriously best mother in the world.
After preparing everything with my mom it was officially time for the bachelorette party.
We started out the evening with some dinner at Joe's Farm Grill, and then came back to my house for the Bachelorette Olympics
There were 12 girls total (including Sadie and myself) that came to celebrate Sadie's final days as a bachelorette.
McKenzie and I were the hosts of the evening, Sadie was a "floater" and participated on everyone's teams, and then the remaining nine girls were divided into three teams. Since this was the olympics each team was their own "country" and had to create their own flag:

There were ten different competitions:

Hose Over Bros
A relay race where each member of the team has to put on panty hose with oven mitts, run across the room, take off the panty hose and hand off the hose and the mitts to the next person on their team.

Dirty Dancing
One member of each team (plus Sadie) had a tissue box filled with four ping pong balls tied around their waist, their mission was to be the quickest to shake out all of the ping pong balls.

Condom Queen
Another relay race. Each team member had one condom, and each team had one banana and a whole lot of lotion. One by one a team member with lotion all over their hand had to apply the condom to the banana and peel it back off, then hand the same banana over to the next team member to do the same.

It's A Love Story
For this game each team was given two sets of strips of paper. On one of the sets were the names of popular chick flicks, and on the other set were literal alternative titles for those movies. Whoever matched them up the fastest won. And since I am so unorganized I ended up not printing out "Pride and Prejudice" so it was confusing for us all.

Catch Phrase
You know the game. You have to try and make your teammate guess the word on the card without using the actual word on the card. I made strips of paper with sex and wedding related phrases to add the bachelorette twist to the game.

Bra Pong
Bounce the ball off a stool into one of the three bras on the wall. Biggest bra was on the bottom and worth 1 point, medium bra was in the middle and worth 3 points, and the tiny A bra was at the top and worth 5 points.

Cold Feet
Each team had a bucket of ice cold water with eight shower rings inside it. The fastest person to remove all eight shower rings (one at a time) with their feet won the game.

Sadie was the queen of cold feet, but don't worry she didn't actually have cold feet on her wedding day

Intermission/Lingerie Guess
As a little intermission game, I had all the girls bring a piece of lingerie to give to Sadie. If Sadie could correctly guess who gave what on each team then the team got points!
Don't worry Sadie I won't post any of the lingerie photos ha

It's A Love Story
For this game each team got three sets of papers. One set with months, another with days and the last with years. They had to match up the months, days and years for the correct events in Sadie and Parker's love story (when they met, their first date, when they became boyfriend/girlfriend, when they said I love you, when Sadie left on her mission, when Parker got home from his mission, and when they got engaged)
Sadie's snitches had a good advantage with Sadie and Parker's sister on their team

Put A Ring On It
One representative from each team (plus Sadie) had a bowl of peach rings and one skewer. They each had to hold the skewer in their mouth and be the first to get all of the peach rings on the stick.

The Cherry (or Pop The Cherry)
One representative from each time had to dig their face into a bowl of whip cream in order to find two cherries hidden inside the whip cream, first to find them both was the winner!

The Garter Toss
The final competition was the garter toss. Very simple. There were three lines on the floor. If you passed the first line you got one point, the second line two points, and the third line three points. Each member of the team got to toss the garter and all their points were combined.

By the end of those 10 (but really 11 including intermission) The Trojan Trio and Pizza Pardie had tied. So as a tie breaker they played catch phrase with the team's two most compatible players. The best two out of three not only won Catch Phrase but earned gold in the bachelorette olympics.

And the winner was....

THE TROJAN TRIO!
Silver medal went to Pizza Pardie, and bronze to Sadie's Snitches. But apparently Walmart doesn't sell medals during the olympics so we just went with beads (purple for gold because that's Sadie's wedding color, silver for silver, and red for bronze)

And since Sadie was the woman of the evening and competed for all the countries, she was the most decorated olympian of the evening.

These girls were seriously so amazing and fun. I spent a lot of time picking out the games and even more time worrying that it wouldn't be fun for everyone. My mom always tells me "if you want to have fun, bring it" and these ladies definitely brought it.

Best friends and our sisters!

Thursday August 11
I have the world's greatest Aunt and in preparation for my cousin's wedding next weekend she pampered my mother, Kenzie and myself with a hair day. Kenzie and I both went darker (a little toooo dark for me, but I am warming up to it) and then me and my mom both got ours cut.

After getting our hair done I went to help Sadie and Parker set up the reception at the church building. I got there around 3:30 and left around 10:30 pm and everyone else was there much longer! But everyone's hard work paid off and the cultural hall looked amazing. I am usually not a very big fan of receptions in churches, but Sadie's vision totally blew my mind. It looked amazing.
I didn't take any pictures of the finished product, so I apologize to you all

Friday August 12
THE BIG DAY!
MY BEST FRIEND GOT MARRIED!
She was actually the world's most gorgeous bride, I couldn't help but smile and want to cry every single time I looked at her. Everything about the wedding was amazing. All the bridesmaids looked amazing, the groomsmen looked amazing, the bouquets were amazing (ESPECIALLY Sadie's, oh my gosh EVERYONE was dying over it), the temple was amazing. Seriously everything was just amazing... well except for that Arizona heat when you are trying to take pictures. Luckily I brought my leftover fans from Annabeth's wedding with my to cool some people down.
I took video on my camera and Kenzie took lots of photos on my camera at the temple but I am somehow an idiot and formatted my memory card and everything was gone. So until I have money and I can buy a recovery software, those photos are non-existent. But luckily Pam took quite a few photos on her phone, so I will just steal them from her.

After the wedding pictures at the temple it was time for the luncheon. Parker's mom put it together so perfectly. There was a room where you could record a video message for Sadie and Parker with wedding advice. McKenzie and I went in there as two married women with a lot of advice to give... it was pretty funny. For lunch there was pulled pork, rolls (WITH THE DELICIOUS CINNAMON BUTTER LIKE AT TEXAS ROADHOUSE) and lots and lots of fruit.

After the luncheon there was a few hour break where I went home and tried to finish Sadie and Parker's wedding slideshow... until I realized I had subconsciously formatted my SD card and the slideshow remained how it was. I also had quite a few technical difficulties trying to get my computer to burn to slideshow to a DVD. In the end I just put the video on youtube and then we used Parker's computer to download the video off of youtube and use an HDMI cord to show the video on the tv at the reception. It was a mess of a process.

Eventually it was time to go to the reception for some more bridal party pictures. I can't wait for Sadie to get them all back! But for now, here is one of me and my best friend forever whom I love with all my heart.
I just want everyone to know that this was my highest liked instagram photo. Special thanks to Sadie for making that happen.

Now let's talk about the reception. Sadie and Parker met at Bahama Bucks... guess who catered their wedding? BAHAMA BUCKS! SO Adorable. They also had a lot of fruit because if you know Sadie, you know the one thing she might love more than Parker in this world is fruit... and me(haha just kidding Parker). There was LOTS of dancing. It was seriously just a giant party. These kids know how to throw a party, so it's fitting that their wedding hashtag was #PardieForever. It was a big enough party that Steph even came up from Tucson to join in on the fun.

Here are a couple of photos that I took from some of the first dance and the daddy-daughter/mother-son dance.

When we were all leaving Avery said to me "your boyfriend left you and now your best friend is leaving you. That's so sad." Luckily Sadie already left me for a mission and isn't actually leaving me permanently. I am so happy for her and Parker. I love them both so much, and I love them even more together. I am so happy I got to be part of their wedding day #PardieForever. I can't believe my best friend is married AHHHH!

Saturday August 13
Now that my apprenticeship is over, the Star has hired me to do some freelance work whenever they might need it. I am super excited about it, even though it's not really a real job.
I had two assignments on Saturday sandwiched around McKenzie moving to Tucson and becoming the newest 1320 beezie (don't worry an interview blog for her will be coming soon).
I left Mesa in the morning to make it to my first assignment. I joined a reporter at West University to interview some residents about the neighborhoods history. I took some photos of them and a few houses and shops in the neighborhood. Good stuff.
Then McKenzie arrived with the rest of my family and we started setting up her room! I remember moving in three years ago and how sad but excited I was to be there. She didn't really seem sad at all, or at least she hid it pretty well. My mom on the other hand, was not very good about hiding the sadness... and neither was Avery.
Eventually we got her all settled in, so of course we had to take a picture.

My second assignment was at the Gaslight theater in Oro Valley. I was pretty excited about this assignment, especially because it was an Elvis Presley show. It was a ton of fun.

Sunday August 14
McKenzie's first day of singles ward in Tucson was today! We are still combined with 5th Ward for another week, so she didn't get to see exactly how third ward is, but she got a little taste. She got to meet the Bishopric and even set up a meeting with the Bishop after church for him to get to know her a little bit. It was convenient because I had my recommend interview scheduled already so we just went around the same time. This was also the first week I went to 9 am church instead of 1 pm. I definitely like morning church better than afternoon, but I am one of the few (Jared slept a lot). I am excited for everyone to come back from their summer vacations and get this school year started!
But before that happens I do still have one last vacation this week; I am going to Canada for my cousins wedding... and then I am done with weddings, I promise!
