Friday April 15
Since Parker came home from his mission, Sadie and I have been talking about doing a super fun fam lake trip. It was supposed to happen the week prior to this weekend, but I forgot Sprang Flang was happening, and I just could not miss that. So we settled on this past weekend, which was convenient because it was also the weekend of Parker's homecoming talk.
Being the jumping-to-conclusions/everyone-can-read-my-mind type of person that I am. I assumed we would be going to the lake on Saturday (not considering how busy the lake gets on Saturday), so I just planned my ride schedule accordingly. But alas, it was best if the trip happened on Friday. I unfortunately had to work until 11 on Friday, so everyone had to wait for me to get the Mesa around 1... Oh but even better... it was quite windy so EVERYONE tapped into their inner sloth while they were driving, so I got there even later. I was deeply sorry for making everyone late haha.
Unfortunately Zach gets all his news from me and I told him that we would be going to the lake Saturday (without actually confirming with anyone) so he ended up requesting work off Saturday, but working on Friday. So it wasn't a complete fam trip. But there was Trev, Sadie and Parker. We also had special guests Amanda May and her fiancé Parker, and of course Sadie's parents and her little sister Hadley.
I joked with Trev that it was like we were on a triple date ('cause you know... Sadie, Parker... Amanda, Parker) but I ended up ditching Trev, and Hadley became my lake date.
So we rode on two boats at the lake. Rick was interested in buying this one boat so we went and tested the waters with it, and then we tubed for a little bit on Rick's boat.
Unfortunately it was very windy at the lake, which meant the water was really choppy... soooo no wake boarding. But people did wake surf (I didn't, it seems too complicated for me haha) and tubed (even though tubing was kind of painful with the choppiness and with water constantly blowing in your face).
Despite the less than fortunate water it was a good old fun time as the lake always is. I only took a couple pictures but I did make this fun lil' slo-mo video (in my attempt to be a third as cool as Hailey Devine).
Eventually everyone was sick of the wind and we threw in the towel to go back home.
After freshening up and getting some bugs out of my hair, the fam (even Zach) got back together to go eat some Cane's and to go to Sub Zero. It's kind of really crazy now that Parker is back. It feels exactly how it felt two/three years ago... like nothing has changed! It's fantastic.
After getting dinner and dessert we went back to Zach's house to play some games and obviously make some new formations of the Whip Nae Nae (because honestly what other activities would you do as 21/20 year olds on a Friday night).

Saturday April 16
So for my final package in my broadcasting class, I was supposed to do it on sustainability at Sprang Flang... but I was really just lazy and didn't want to go get footage or interview people that weekend. So I had to come up with a new project idea. There were lots of Earth Day ish events going on in Tucson this weekend, but I was already planning on going up to the valley, and I wasn't about to change my plans for school (haha). So I did some research to see if anything science or environment related (that was the beat for my project) events going on in the valley. Who knew Apache Junction would be coming in clutch... They had a lady bug release on Saturday morning! So I dragged Zach and Trev with me bright and early in the morning all the way to AJ to get some footage of lady bugs being released into their community garden. It was a really entertaining release because all these kids were like "I LOVE LADY BUGS THEY ARE MY FAVORITE BUG EVER" and then one would land on their arm and they would run away screaming.
All the families got their own cup of lady bugs to release into the garden (there were over 150,000 lady bugs in total). Zach got a cup with like 90% of the lady bugs dead... so that's nice.
Overall it was a very exciting event, and you should go to lady bug releases because they are apparently always happening and super fun.
These photos are just screenshots of the video I got, so they aint good quality... don't hate
After I got all the footage and interviews that I needed, we went back to Mesa, dropped Trev off and then Zach and I went to lunch at Mod Pizza and started to marathon season two of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (which is hilarious). I unfortunately still had to work on Saturday so spent some time editing photos and writing beloved cutlines.
At night Zach had the great idea to make some ice cream in a bag. Luckily, the Walton's already had all the ingredients that we needed so we could make it right away. Thane was very excited when he found out we were making ice cream, I think if he could make a living off of making ice cream in a bag... he would.
I prefer my ice cream to not be soft serve... but it takes so dang long to get the ice cream to get to the right consistency... I settled on soft serve... which ended up looking more like mashed potatos than it did ice cream.
After everyone made their ice cream we had a Walton family game party with scattegories. I discovered that I am very harsh when it comes to acceptable answers, and Thane is too lenient. I also discovered that Pam and I have the exact same mind cause she stole all my answers haha.
Sunday April 17
I went to three Sacrament meetings on Sunday. Oh yes, you read that right.. THREE. McKenzie both spoke in their wards (which is kind of funny because I was also asked to give a talk in my ward on Sunday but I was obvi going out of town so I said no) and then Parker's homecoming talk!
McKenzie gave a fabulous talk about a struggle she has had and how she grew closer to God through the struggle. EJ talked about general conference. During his introduction he made a funny joke which I think is worthy of sharing on here. He said "I graduated from the U of A, which I know isn't the most popular choice in this crowd... but I won't get into how the popular choice and the right choice are hardly ever the same" it was funny, I laughed, bear down. Parker gave his homecoming talk about conversion which was awesome, he had a few great mission stories, which are always the best part of homecoming talks (besides listening the their new accent, even though Parker doesn't really have one).
It's so nice having five people in the fam for awhile!
This picture just makes me laugh so much because of how giant Zach looks
After all the church meetings I hung out with my family for a little bit, packed up my stuff, drove EJ to the airport and then made my way back to Tucson.
Some exciting things that have happened this week so far:
I applied to be photo editor for the Summer Wildcat
I got a $2000 grant for my summer class
OH! One really exciting thing that did happen last Wednesday that I am too lazy to go back to the top of the page to type. I found our final roommate for the summer/fall! Her name is Jenny. She is a freshman right now, and a pre-journalism major. She loves One Direction... but also loves Zayn (I'm working on forgiving her for that). She's pretty awesome, so I am excited for her to be living with us! I am especially excited because now Steph is going to be staying for most of the summer so it's going to be a real party with me, her, Ty and Jenny!
There's only two weeks left of classes which is absolutely fabulous considering I one final and it's online.
First, EJs joke: spot on.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I got the same grant and actually thought I was going to cry. No one in my family would be excited for me. So Im glad that someone else is feeling the same excitement.
