Past My Shoulders

Monday October 5
The homie Elder Hall was heading back home to his native land of Idaho and although he is a 5th ward missionary we still sent him away in true 3rd ward fashion by going to U Swirl
Tuesday October 6
I don't think I did anything on Tuesday besides go to class... my life is a bundle of excitement.

Wednesday October 7
The most important part of my Wednesday was that I had an epiphany that I should chop my hair off. I went around asking people all day if I should do it and I decided that I was going to do it. But I didn't do it on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday I rode the sunlink downtown to take some pictures of some restaurants for the Wildcat. It wasn't that eventful, but I love walking around downtown so I was happy with it. I almost walked into a supercuts to chop all my hair off but I resisted.

Thursday October 8
I shot an assignment for the Wildcat.... I went to class.... I set my appointment for my haircut.... and the missionaries came over for dinner and had an awesome object lesson that involved a plate, water, fire, matches, a cup, gum and a penny. You can put that all together and put a spiritual message with it.

Friday October 9
Today was the day to cut my hair. I had work from 9-11 and then my appointment was at 11 at Aveda on campus. I was freaking out all morning, luckily Zach and Sadie gave me great pep talks so I was able to go through with it. My experience at Aveda.... was not the best. Let me just tell you how this went down with my hairdresser we will call her Barb.
Barb: So what do you want done today (as she plays with my long, colorful and damaged hair)
Syd: I want a long bob just like these pictures where it's just past my collarbone (I show her multiple pictures with hair past the collarbone)
Barb: Wow you want to cut this all off?
Syd: Yeah I had an epiphany that it needed to go
(silence as she touches my hair)
Barb: Are you sure?
Syd: Yes I'm positive
(silence)
Syd: Are you sure?
Barb: I'm a little hesitant...
(I laugh awkwardly)
(silence)
Barb: When was the last time you cut your hair?
Syd: I don't know probably like a year
Barb: Yeah I can tell from all these split ends
(I'm just thinking OKAY MORE REASON TO CUT IT)
Barb: And you've dyed your hair?
Syd: Yeah but not in awhile that's why it's really colorful
Barb: Yeah I can tell.... Can I offer you any other services today, like waxing your eyebrows?
Syd: No thanks haha (thinking: could this girl be any ruder I am aware I need to pluck them)
Barb:Okay let me go get my instructor and we can start
Instructor: So what do you want done today?
Syd: A long bob
Barb: Yeah she just wants it at her shoulders
Syd: No i want it past my shoulders
(then Barb wets my hair down and gets ready to cut the first piece)
Barb: Are you sure you want to do this
Syd: Yes just do it
(and then she makes the first cut..... and I know she did it too short)
(She continues cutting and finishes the base and just has to do the layers)
Barb: What do you think so far?
Syd: Well it's definitely shorter than I wanted
Barb: Well we will see what it looks like when it's dry
(I'm thinking gurl what the heck your hair gets shorter when it's dry)
(Then she cuts my layers, blow drys it and doesn't style it)
AND I HATE IT. I just wanted to get out of there without crying. I paid for a product so I could get a coupon for $20 worth of services, paid my dues and ran out.
I was bawling on the way home. Don't worry I don't hate it anymore. It's just that she didn't style it after she blow dried it, so i was just a puff ball. So I went home and styled it myself and liked it a little bit better. I didn't actually like it until the next morning after I showered and did it all on my own. Now I really love it, with the exception of these choppy layers in the front. Luckily my hair does grow fast so it will get to the length that I really want in no time.

Friday night I was super stoked because I was shooting the Bernie Sanders rally in Tucson for the Wildcat. The media spot was awesome and elevated so I was able to get some great shots, but the best part was that a couple photographers at a time could go right up to him and take pictures like seriously look how close I was
And my photos made it into the newspaper with my name spelled correctly I was ecstatic!
You can see my online gallery here
Political rallies are just fun, there's not too much depth to them because you just want to get people excited with great power phrases, but it's fun to see people so passionate. I'm hoping a republican candidate comes to Tucson so I can photograph that too and compare them. I love the campaign season.

Saturday October 10
Saturday was amazing! Zach, Sadie and Trevor came to Tucson for the football game against OSU. Unfortunately it was a day game and it was very hot but it was still fun. Zonazoo really did not represent it was so empty the entire time, regardless security was so strict on who could come in (but I was sneaky and got my buddies in). Trevor and Sadie had to leave after half time because Trevor had to get back for a wedding, but it was fun spending time with them and being apart of Sadie's first social event since coming home. Zach and I stayed the entire game and I got so burnt. It was a weird kind of burn where it looked like a tan until I lifted up my bangs so you could see my original color... it was just bad haha. Susannah hooked us up with these wristbands that got us into a secret club filled with unlimited popcorn and soda so that made the game far more enjoyable.

Once the game was over Zach and I went back to my house to see my family before they left to go back to Mesa. Then Zach, Steph, Annabeth, Amanda, Rory and myself went to Wendy's for a quick dinner before we met at the institute to go to Terror In The Corn at Buckelew Farms.
This is the third year that I have organized the institute mob of Terror in the Corn and the group just keeps getting bigger and I love it just as much every year. Here is the evolution of the group (shout out to me, Amanda and Steph for being the OG's):
2013
 2014
2015
(seriously look how burned my face looks in this picture compared to my chest)

The corn maze was very scary as per usual. Because our group was so big we were split into three smaller groups. My group consisted of: Me, Zach, Dillon, Megan, Peter Derek Bradshaw, Andrew and Queston. I loved my group mostly because Megan has the best horror film scream in the world. And since she was screaming so much the actors picked on her instead of me haha.
As you can probably tell from the picture there was a lot of coupling so it made for an entertaining night. I like to narrate peoples relationships or non-relationships.

When we made it out of the corn maze we obviously had to take lots of pictures to document the night so here you go!
I look like a demon in this picture and I love it

(this picture was actually from the Wendy's parking lot, this is the first picture of all of us roommates)

Dillon and Megan were lost in the corn maze for a long time so we all just hung out and waited for them and then once they made it out alive most of us went to Ihop for some fun party time and then all went back to our own homes.

Sunday October 11
This was Amanda's first Sunday in 3rd ward this year so it was quite the exciting day. I only stayed through Sunday School because I didn't want to leave Zach to get bombarded in priesthood by himself. After church Zach and I made some pasta which was delicious. We did some homework and worked on my natural sound project. Clearly a very entertaining Sunday. But it was a very good day overall, I'm always so happy when Zach comes to Tucson and gets to come to church with me.

Monday October 12
Today is my eldest brothers birthday. In recent years EJ has become one of my very best friends. If I ever complain about someone, I'm usually complaining to him and he's kind enough to not make me feel guilty about it. I constantly remind him of how he reminds me of Crazy Craig from Parks and Rec, and it's one of my favorite activities to send him memes of Craig when he's texting me. I am very grateful that he paved the canal for the rest of his siblings and grateful for everything he does for me and the rest of our siblings even though we do not always thank him enough. I feel like it's a tradition for me to post this picture of us, it's one of my favorites

Other than the fact that today is EJ's birthday. Today was pretty entertaining because I was working all day and none of my students recognized me with my short hair, they crack me up. But they did all tell me that it looked good. After work I finished my natural sound project, wrote my midterm paper, went to FHE, went to U Swirl for the second week in a row to say goodbye to Elder Judy and Sister Adams.

This week is officially the half way mark of the semester and I cannot even believe it! That first half went by so fast, now I'm hoping the second half does the same!
