What Happens In Tucson...

Lots of fun things have happened for me in the past week or so.
On Wednesday, I interviewed and photographed "Stories That Transform" a class offered by Literacy Connects to help improve adult literacy. In case you thought I did this just for fun (which I probably would do actually), it was for an assignment for my multimedia class to an audio slideshow for a person or group that makes a difference in the community. Here are some of the photos:

The audio in my interview was not good at all, but if you have really good hearing you can watch it:

On Friday it was Susannah's 20th birthday party! Annabeth, Steph, Rory, Dakota, Connor and myself piled into Annabeth's 6 person car to head to Marana (where Susannah lives). There were three people in the front row and three in the back, any guesses on where I sat? If you thought middle in the front row in between the driver and the passenger then you would be correct. It was a fun ride though!
I was excited about this party, not only because I love Susannah and there would be Mexican food provided as dinner, but also because I have not done Marana yet 91AZ15! I know what you're thinking, "What Sydney? Marana is literally right next to Tucson, how have you not done it yet?" and the answer to that is because it's too easy. I am never in the mood to just go to Marana. So that's why I hadn't done it prior to her party. But all is well, I got it done.
At her party she introduced the non-T-locs to sushi tag. Apparently it's a very popular game for Mormons in the Tucson area. So in the game you are paired off and sitting in a giant circle. On partner sits in the back and one sits in front. The person who is "it" call upon two pairs, and the goal of the front person is to be the first to touch the "it" person, and the goal of the back person is to prevent them from doing so. As you look through these photos and watch my Marana video, you will be able to tell it's just a game for sexually oppressed mormons. But boy was it entertaining to watch.

This was the best picture of the night

If you watched the video you probably saw Susannah standing in front of her pretty cake while loud and strange noises were happening around her, that was her happy birthday song. Some people were singing different variations of happy birthday and others were just making noises but it was very entertaining.

On Saturday Zach and Trev came to Tucson! I was so excited for them to spend the weekend in Tucson. The main reason they came down was for the big YSA activity up on Mt Lemmon, but I like to think they came just for me. Before we went to up the Mountain Lemmon we went to Kneaders for lunch (my favorite) and pretty much just chilled at 1320.
Then the time came for us and our gang to make our way up the mountain, (that days gang consists of: Zach, Trevor, Andrew, Rory, Annabeth, Olivia, Steph and myself). When we got up the mountain it was already dinner time (we went late) so we ate our burgers/hot dogs and then went to the "Taylor & Natalie spot" to take some pictures. (I got a lot of grief for not bringing my camera, but you can enjoy these noisy pictures)

After the pictures there was a devotional given by President Somerville (who is also my institute teacher) about the importance of having a temple recommend and going to the temple. I definitely need to be better at going to the temple, especially considering how often I am in the valley. I probably won't be around by the time the Tucson temple is finished, but I am excited for it anyway.

Then there was the very best part of the activity: the dance! Trev was very adamant that he did not want to dance, but he definitely danced for at least an hour, I was very proud of him. The best part of dances on Mt Lemmon is that when you are getting to hot and sweaty on the dance floor, you just have to take 5 steps away and you will cool down almost immediately.

We had quite the adventure heading down the mountain, and I think it would be best described by Rory's facebook post about it:
"PSA: When driving down Mt. Lemmon (or any mountain), and you are going slow to a point at which you are holding up other cars, please pullover to the side where it reads "Parking pullout." That does not mean you must park there and turn off your engine, it means pulling off to the side so others can pass and you may continue your journey at the rate at which you were going previously. Failure to pullover will result in your car being flashed or honked at as a polite way of saying to move over so we may all continue our descent in peace. Failure to get the hint will result in longer flashes, possible tailings, and longer honks. The results of this will be that your passengers will feel guilt for your juvenile behavior and further refusal to comply (e.g. flipping the others cars off) will result in road rage and a potential arch nemesis in every car you are holding up. You have been warned don't be that guy/girl If you are then this is how many dates you'll get this semester: 0 (For dramatic emphasis my hand is forming a 0 sign). You have been warned."

I think you get the gist of what happened, I felt very bad for Zach who was the one driving and had to deal with the idiots.

On Sunday we all went to church together. I think the boys were anticipating only going to Sacrament, but I made them sit through sunday school also, luckily there was popcorn to help them get through the extra hour.
The boys stayed most of Sunday so Zach could watch Big Brother with me, so we spent most of our Sunday watching football, making pizza, drinking vanilla cokes and playing phase 10 (which Trev ended up winning, which is very surprising because Trev is not very good at card games)

On Monday I was at school all day long. I had work from 8-4:30 then I worked on my multimedia project from 4:45-7 and then I had FHE from 7-8:30. Long day, but I made it through. And FHE was kind of entertaining because we got split into our families and we names Andrew the "Jerry" of our family (if you don't understand what I mean, you clearly have never watch Parks and Rec).

Tuesday I had classes all day long but it was Caroline's 21st birthday so Steph, Rory and I joined her birthday dinner at Blanco. We asked Caroline what she did for her birthday and what she did perfectly describes the kind of person she is. She made 21 care packages and gave them to 21 hobos! She's such a saint. I'm lucky to have such a kind and caring friend!
