Kale Yeah

You know what I just realized? after this week there is only one fully week left of school, yeah you read that correctly, one! How is it even possible that I am already almost done with my sophomore year of college? I am pretty sure I graduated high school yesterday. The semester coming to a close also means that I am just that much closer to studying abroad in Italy! I am exactly one month and one day away from flying, I am so excited!

So on Friday I spent pretty much the entire afternoon/night writing a research paper for my international relations class, and I only got a third of it done. I have known about this assignment since the first day of school, I decided my topic at the end of March, and just started it Friday. Procrastination at it's finest people. But am I really THAT much of a procrastinator considering the paper isn't even due until tomorrow? I classify myself as an early procrastinator for at least starting a few days before the due date.
While I was working on the essay, Steph rented Big Eyes and we watched it at our house. I thought it was really good, but that husband sure did piss me off. I also just really love Amy Adams, pretty much anything she is in I am bound to enjoy.

Saturday was a big day because Steph, Caroline, Caroline's roommate Megan, and myself mozied our way up to Scottsdale for the Chipotle Cultivate Festival. For those of you who do not live in Arizona or do not go to Chipotle on a weekly basis like I do, the festival was to promote sustainability and how awesome chipotle is. There were many sustainable companies there teaching us about their ways and giving us free samples of their healthy foods. There was also a wicked awesome music lineup: Jared & The Mill, The Magic Men, Ms Mr, Bleachers and the one, the only twenty-one pilots. It was awesome!
So there were five chipotle informative stations and if you went to four of them you got a free meal coupon for chipotle. Well me and my crew went through the stations twice (Caroline and Megan even went a third time). I have already used both of my coupons... no shame. ALSO if you went through the guacamole tent, where you learn how chipotle makes their guac, not only do you get a sample but you also get a coupon for free chips and guac... we went through that tent 3 times. And funny story, one of the guys who works at the chipotle on campus was working at this tent and totally recognized us #noshame. We also got ANOTHER free chips and guac coupon from an avocado tent. I'm sitting pretty with these chipotle coupons, I tell ya.
So when it comes to bands, I really only watched Ms Mr, Bleachers and Twenty-One Pilots, and they all rocked. I had never heard of Ms Mr before, but they are definitely one of my new favorites. I love bleachers, always. And how could you not like twenty-one pilots? The best thing about concerts is that you're surrounded by hundreds of strangers, but you're all one in your admiration for music, so no one really feels like a stranger anymore.
Funniest story of them all. While I was sitting and listening to twenty one pilots, I had a cup of sprite on the left side of me and the half full can on the right side. A drunk guy comes up and accidentally kicks my cup over and spills my sprite. He felt super bad, but I said it was okay because I still had half of the drink left in the can. Well he insisted in at least refilling my cup up with ice, so I let him. He brings it back to me and introduces himself to me as Jessie and then walks away. Then he comes back and says this "and on top of that, I don't know how old you are but..." then he starts to kneel down but completely falls backward onto the ground, he got back up and said "I don't know how old you are but uh I'm 29" to which I interrupted and said "yeah, I'm 19" to which he replied and said "oh no no you're way too young, yeah you're way to young." Isn't it fun getting hit on by drunk 29 year olds? I attract a strange crowd.
So I counted this trip as "Scottsdale" on my 91AZ15 goal, so you can go check out the video I made for it, up in the tab above. But for now, here are some pictures!

The festival ended at seven, so afterwards we went to Bahama Bucks to visit Kenzie at work, EJ and Zach joined us so it was a party! I always like taking people to bahama bucks when they have never been there before, because they are always so shocked with how good it tastes. I have been to bahama bucks enough in my lifetime that the magic of it is no longer there, but I remember my first time and being in heaven.

Sunday was church. Not only was it church, but it was ward conference. That's right General, Stake and Ward conference three weeks in a row. Still don't like it. But they made up for it by having homemade bread for sacrament and then using the leftover bread for linger longer.
After church I went home and made the video for the festival. I had a couple breaks though so I could facetime in on two of my friends opening their mission calls.
First was a member of the Fam, baby Keaton. He got called to Pocatello, Idaho! I was at first kind of sad for him, because you know... Idaho isn't super cool, but then I got to thinking about the missionaries who serve here in Tucson. Tucson does not sound like a super cool mission to me. But stateside people get to live the high life, members treat them like royalty. I know Keaton is just going to love it in Idaho, and that it is exactly where he needs to be! He's gonna kill it I tell ya, absolutely kill it. Also think of all the potatoes he gets to eat? That's french fries my people.

Later was a member of the Brodahood (what we called my group that I hung out with my senior year of high school. (can you tell I have a thing for naming the groups I am in ex: the fam, 1320 beezies). Coincidentally Keaton was also in the brodahood, so that's a fun fact).
Tanner got called to serve in Trinidad! Dutch speaking! I didn't even know they spoke Dutch there... I have never even met someone who spoke Dutch on their mission, so I think this is freaking awesome! Earlier in the day he was texting me to see if I could come to the opening, since I was in Tucson I couldn't, but I asked him where he thinks he will go. He told me "I don't care where I am going, as long as I am speaking a different language" well he got his wish! I am so happy for him.
Here are a few photos I have with the both of them, they are going to be such amazing missionaries!

In case you all are wondering, I didn't work on my essay at all on Sunday... go me!

But I did finish most of it on Monday while I was working! Also on Monday, I had the Finley Writing Competition Scholarship. The mayor came and spoke to us about water in Tucson, and then we had to write a news article about the event. I found out this morning that I didn't win, but I am okay with that because I don't think I put my all into the article anyway, I am definitely honored to have been nominated though, and the three winners were 3 people from my reporting the news class, and they are absolute rockstars and totally deserved it!
Someone was taking pictures at it and posted them to the journalism page so here are two that I am in #workthatupdo

After the competition I went straight to FHE where we played capture the flag. Josh nominated me team captain and we won the first round, woohoo. The second round was inconclusive but I think the other team won. After capture the flag we ate brownies because you know 4/20 ( don't worry there wasn't any pot in the brownies.... or at least I don't think so I was feeling very weirdly relaxed last night.... lol just kidding #momo4lyfe)

The good news is that it is now Tuesday, the paper is due tomorrow and I am just about finished, I just have to go through and nit-pick everything, to make sure that I get a good grade! Let's all hope I can make it through this final stretch!
