Shout out to all my fellow Parks and Rec lovers.
Alright, so I spent quite a sum of money this month on some of the greatest technology to have ever been held in my hand. That glorious piece of heaven, was a Nikon d7100.
For my photojournalism class I was required to have certain equipment: a camera, an audio recorder, microphone, shock mount and hard drive. I contacted my professor to see if my camera at the time (Nikon d5000) would work for the class, he told me that it would but if I had any interest in photojournalism or any other multimedia classes then it would be wise to upgrade. Obviously, all my interest was in the multimedia realm, so it was time to get a new camera. But I decided to treat myself, and not only get a new camera body but also 2 new lenses, macro lens, multiple filters, telephoto lens, and a whole lot more. I ordered that whole package along with the rest of the required equipment earlier in the month and this past week they all arrived.
The following pictures were my adventure picking up my camera package at FedEx and carrying the ginormous box around with me through Safeway because I did not want to leave it in the car.
Look at those beauties.
Easily the greatest purchase of my life and I am so thrilled for all the adventures I am going to have with it around my neck.
Alright so now to talk about what went on during the week.
Last Saturday: I had my first shoot with the daily wildcat, and it's posted as an online gallery! http://www.wildcat.arizona.edu/gallery/comix-it-up
I also got the opportunity to work with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and I don't know if it's possible to find love in a lens, but I sure did. So selfies were necessary...
Monday: No school. I ran errands with Rory. FHE was supah fun.
Tuesday: Work, school until 7. I think I'm actually starting to get used to these long days, staying all day at the school thing.
Wednesday: Work, school until 6. Then I went to pick up my camera from fed ex (see photos above) and spent the rest of my night playing with it until I realized it was way past my bedtime and I still needed to shower.
Thursday: Work, school until 7. During an hour and a half long break between my classes, I decided not to go to the institute as I usually do, instead I went on the top floor of the student union and took some shots of Old Main. I think it was a sign that I need to expand my horizons and not just spend every waking moment at the institute. The University of Arizona is so beautiful, and I am going to find those beautiful places. I can't really remember what happened that day after my class ended, but it probably consisted of me eating dinner and then going to sleep. I know, I live the high life.
Friday: Work, school until 3. Afterwards, Steph and I decided to experiment with my new microphone and camera as she sang beautiful one direction songs. It's been a trial and error experience, but I think we are getting places. At night I went to a YSA kickball activity with Steph and Caroline, we mostly went for the bonfire. In fact we combined forces with Maddy to bring our own smores stuff because no one would give us a definitive answer as to whether smores would be provided or not. Turns out the fire was super lame, and not even a real fire, so myself, Steph, Caroline, Rory and Bert went to Caroline's friends house and used their fire pit to have our own bonfire. I was freezing, my bed still smells like a campfire, but it was very fun.
Saturday: At noon I had another shoot for the Daily Wildcat. It was at a research conference, there were lots of cool hands on experiments, which made shooting super entertaining.
After the shoot, Steph and I went to Fired Up Pie, a make your own pizza place that's downtown, then we needed to look for an ATM to pay for parking with cash, and we found ourselves at the Dillinger Days festival, where we found some really cute old people.
We eventually got back home and I started to work on the Super Bowl predictions poster, while binge watching Grey's Anatomy. Rory even graced us with his presence and filled in his predictions when I had completed the poster.
Later at night, after Rory left, Steph and I decided we wanted to see a movie, but both agreed we did not want to go out and see a movie, so we rented If I Stay from redbox and got snacks from circle K... and yes, Steph did cry.
This week is the first full week of school, I am still kind of overwhelmed with the semester, but now that I am adjusting to the schedule I think my stress level will begin to decrease.
