October started out super awesome because I was no longer sick, but the consequence of me healing so quickly was this freakish thing growing on the upper left side of my lip. Some claimed it to be a cold sore (the more humorous people just called it herpes), others claimed it to be chapped lips, stress mark and others claimed it to be an allergic reaction. Whatever it was, it wasn't pretty, and it clearly bothered a lot of people around school and the institute because of how unappealing it was more than it bothered me for it was painless. As of today, the cold sore/herpes/chapped skin/stress mark/allergic reaction has now disappeared and no longer bugging people.
It was also a rather stressful week, I spent most of Monday reading a long and boring article and formulating said article into a 6 page essay for my American Government class. But I was able to end that day with a joyous pudding drop challenge in which Andrew ever so kindly dropped pudding directly into my eye and all over my face. Here are some lovely pictures for your entertainment:
Tuesday I turned in my essay and got some rather devastating news which turned out to be a blessing in the end. So on Thursday I was planning on going home for conference weekend since all of my roommates would be out of town. In order to go home I needed to request off work on Friday, so I did (or so I thought). On Tuesday I received my work schedule for Friday, apparently my request did not get put through the system, and since so many other people had requested off work already I had to work. I was pretty bummed because I was excited to go home, but it turned out to be for the better... and I will get to that as I get through the rest of the week.
I also spent most of my Tuesday afternoon/night writing my take home essay question for my Journalism exam. Two essays in one week is just too stressful for me, I even started breaking out and when I break out I stress even more. But I did get it done so I shall pat myself on the back.
Wednesday I started to freak out for my Journalism exam that was on Thursday so I decided to go to the study session which the TA was so kind to host. It ended up helping me a lot and clarified a lot of the questions I had, and really eased my stress for the test. Afterwards I went to chipotle and that made feel even more like a champion.
Thursday was my journalism exam and it went really well! I ended up getting a high B on the exam, which I am more than satisfied with considering how much I was stressing out about it. I got one stress load off my back and then when I went to my Public Administration class I got an even heavier one put right back on. I was reminded that my midterm for this class is on this upcoming Tuesday and I knew I was nowhere near ready for it (which is why it was kind of a blessing that I couldn't go home this weekend because I have been able to spend a lot of time studying for the exam). And then ANOTHER stress load was added when I got an email saying my book report for my Gender & Women's Studies class was due on this upcoming Tuesday and I was less than half way through my book.
But luckily Thursday ended on a really good note. After my classes I went to Phoenix with EJ where we met up with Steph, my mom and Avery at the premium outlets. Since EJ now has a job in Scottsdale he will no longer be working at fossil which meant his heavenly discount had an expiration date that was quickly approaching. So we hit up the fossil outlet at that mall and I got a phone case for like 5 bucks (for those of you who know me, you know that I only buy my phone cases from fossil, so it was a pretty dramatic experience for me since this was the last discounted phone case I would get). While were on that end of the valley we also went to Nordstrom rack and the Chandler mall so we could hang out with my mom for a little bit longer. Then we made our way back Tucson and I was able to watch the second half of the Oregon game. I was screaming when I saw that we were in the lead and I was screaming the entire second half as we maintained the lead and screamed the loudest when we beat Oregon for the second year in the row. It was one of my favorite memories from last school year when I was able to storm the field after blowing them out of the water. This year wasn't quite as exhilarating since the game was in Eugene but still flipping awesome! That game has now made Arizona ranked in the nation at #10! So proud to be a wildcat and so happy I decided against going to Oregon... that would have been embarrassing.
Friday I had work with Katy, which was super fun because I never get to work with her.
After work I went to the soccer game with Tory and the rest of the mormon mafia to support Jalexe.
Taylor felt the need to take selfies
Tory being super sassy and Nick being less sassy
Look how happy Mark was to watch soccer
After the game I decided to pick up a few extra hours and go to a free concert on campus with my student Tyler. I was super excited for this concert because I love Tyler Ward, he's been my favorite cover artist since my freshman year of high school. The other people playing was an up and coming star Luna Aura and THE MAN Aloe Blacc (for those of you who don't know, that was really funny because he sings the song "I'm the man").
Tyler was super excited!
Luna Aura was super adorable, you all should look her up!
Tyler was so amazing and a ton of fun!
He changed into an Arizona jersey and destroyed a box that had ASU written on it. It was awesome
Aloe Blacc was super amazing too and lots of fun to dance to!
Saturday I had the house all to myself. In between and after the two general conference sessions I worked solely on studying for my Public Administration essay while watching Gilmore Girls (Is anyone else extremely satisfied with life now that Gilmore Girls is now on Netflix?).
I'm not going to give my full report on conference like I did last year on the blog, but I will tell you that my favorites from Saturday were Lyn G Robbins, Dieter F Uchtdorf, Dallin H Oaks, Neil L Anderson (his was the best one for me), and Jeffrey R Holland (mostly because he referenced my favorite hymn Because I Have Been Given Much AND because he quoted Mother Teresa).
Saturday night Taylor, EJ and Rory came to get me off my couch and moved me to Taylors couch to play Mario Kart on the nintendo 64. We also watched the last part of the Utah v. UCLA game, we were VERY happy with the results because Arizona is now the only undefeated team in the pac 12.
Today I woke up right before Conference. In between and after Conferences I dedicated my time to finishing my book for my book report and I am glad to say that I have officially finished it... now to start the actual report once I finish this blog.
My favorite talks from today's sessions were Henry B Eyring, Russel M Nelson, Thomas S Monson, M. Russell Ballard, and Richard G Scott.
Nelson's talk was particularly interesting to me and makes me wonder if there is going to be a change in church leadership in the near future. Which also made me love the Prophet's talk even more.
Had I have gone home this weekend I probably would not have watched all of the conferences and had some important questions answered, and I also probably would have gotten zero school work done. So I definitely see the blessing in me getting scheduled to work on Friday. This weekend felt like a preparation period for everything that is happening in the next couple weeks. I'm definitely ready to tackle everything that is laid out ahead of me. Yay for midterms. But midterms mean half way done with the semester and that is indeed very exciting.
This also my 100th blog post! Wooooooh!
