Locking Keys in the Car

Bear with me for this story because there are mini stories that go into it.
I will tell you now the ending: me dancing and singing praises in my hallway leading up to my room.

O K A Y.
So today in gospel doctrine my Dad was teaching about Psalms and I will admit that I was only paying attention for about 60% of the lesson (sorry Dr Jay Rich). But at the beginning of the lesson we were talking about how Psalms is a book of songs singing praises to the Lord. Dr Jay Rich asked us all what song we would sing to sing praises when the Lord has done something for us. There were a couple people in the class that named hymns such as "How Great Thou Art", Sister Young who said any love song specifically Journey love songs, there was my Dad who said any 80s song with a long guitar solo but my personal favorite was Brother Perry who said Tubthumping with the line "I get knocked down but I get up again" (which by the way is easily one of my favorite songs). I liked that the song to sing praises didn't have to be from the hymn book, but if it was that was perfectly okay. It's just a song that is special to the individual that creates a burning inside them that really makes them "sing praises".

After gospel doctrine I decided to go home because I do not particularly like going to Relief Society in my home ward because I feel to young and I don't like to go to Young Women's because I feel too old (yes, I know I should probably have gone to a single's ward this summer but y'know too late now). Anyway, so I take my mothers trailblazer home and you know what happens... I lock my keys in the car (serves me right for leaving church early I suppose). I don't know how many times I called myself an idiot while pacing around the house waiting for my Dad to get home after church so I could face his wrath.

In most other locking keys in the car situations the obvious solution is to get the spare key. My dad has a spare key on his set of keys but unfortunately due to a previous event the lock itself on the trailblazer does not work, so in order to lock the car you have use the clicker-thingy and not the key itself. Knowing this is why I called myself an idiot over and over again because the only other solution I could think of was paying someone to open it, and me having to be the one to pay the bill.

Before my parents got home and after punishing myself with the word idiot many-a-time I decided I should probably say a prayer. A prayer that my Dad wouldn't kill me, a prayer that we would be able to get the door open with little to no cost, and even a prayer that I would stop freaking out and being so hard on myself.
So eventually my parents get home and I immediately step outside to tell them what happened. I got sympathy points from my mother because she thought I had been sitting out in the 110 degree weather for over an hour (but the points only lasted for a minute before I told her that I wasn't actually outside and that McKenzie let me in). My Dad didn't seem too happy with me as he walked around the car and told me we would have to call someone to get it unlocked. We all thought we wouldn't be able to get into the car just by trying the key because of the whole lock situation but my Dad decided to try anyway AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED; THE DOOR OPENED! I was so dang excited I ran into my house jumping up and down and then ran upstairs and continued to dance and sing praises down the hall until I got into my room and said another prayer to say thanks to my loving Heavenly Father for answering my prayers.
Crazy how I find myself using the lesson from gospel doctrine less than two hours after learning it.

I am very thankful to have such a loving Heavenly Father there to listen to my prayers and answer them even if they are asking for little things like ceasing anger, having peace or unlocking a car. He's always there and is always willing to listen and answer if we only let Him. And especially thankful that He's okay if my way of singing praises is by singing Toto.

I hope you all are having a fantastic Sunday and are able to see the Lord's hand in your life without having to lock your keys in your car. Always remember to give thanks by singing and dancing!
