School's (Almost) Out For the Summer

Today was the last day of classes so I figured that was a good enough reason to do a mid-week blog post.
Things to celebrate about today:

  1. I have finished classes (duh)
  2. I have not once worn yoga pants to ANY of my classes ALL school year (I have defeated the while university girl stereotype, take that society)
  3. It's likely I will only get 1 B this semester and the rest are A's
So yeah, life's going great.
Now to tell you all what's happened during the week

Sunday
My homeboy Derek Funckes got his mission call to San Diego spanish speaking! I'm so excited for him, he's gonna be a real rockstar missionary and bless the lives of many people in California. And he leaves on his birthday which is an odd birthday present (in my opinion)
At night I went to the CES devotional, I honestly did not really want to go but Annabeth and Steph were singing in the choir before the broadcast so I thought I would go and support them. Although I admit I did not pay that much attention to the CES it was a grand old time with some of my institute homies.

Monday
Monday was a very long day. I left my house for school at 8:40 AM, finished school and started work at 12 PM, finished work at 5:15 PM then went straight to the institute to put the finishing touches to my "family"'s FHE video with Dakota, then FHE at 7, then finally got home around 8 ish. But I was not home for long. Steph and I decided that I needed to stock up on Baja Blast (the mountain dew flavor that prior to Monday was only sold at Taco Bell) but we could not find it ANYWHERE. If you know me at all, then you know I am addicted to Mountain Dew, so you can imagine how sad I was that I couldn't have stock up. After about 5 places Steph and I finally gave up and went home, and I went straight to sleep.

Tuesday
My day started with the last Waffle Tuesday of the year, which is pretty sad because that is always m favorite part of Tuesdays. After eating my delicious waffles Steph and I went to our theatre appreciation class to write an in-class essay. We both felt pretty good about our essay, our good feelings were correct, we both go 100%!
After my theatre class I went to the institute to prepare for my French Listening final that was happening within the hour. Then I went to go take that final and I certainly did not feel good about it at all... but my teacher is an easy grader so I am hoping for the best. To deal with my bad feeling about that part of the final I decided I was going to reward myself with Taco Bell, so I went to the institute to see if anyone wanted to come along, and my fellow Dream Team Club member (a club in which we ammatuerly- that's a word now- interpret peoples dreams), Ryan, accompanied me. I don't know if I have ever walked so fast in my life. I would consider myself a fast walker in general but Ryan really challenged me. We got to taco bell and back to the institute in record timing. At the end of lunch, Ryan actually ended up asking me to the institute dance that is happening on Friday. He did it in a pretty fantastic way (even though I am probably the most awkward person alive); with a taco bell packet "why say no when you could say yes"... I shoulda seen it coming. (Side note: don't worry everyone I talked to Zach about it too, so all is well, no secrets here!) So yeah right after I said yes I like ran off to my institute class because I am awkward and don't know how to function in normal situations.
So it was the last institute of the class of the semester! If you already did not know, this class I was in was Doctrine & Covenants Pt 2. I honestly love D&C... I feel like it is often overlooked but it's definitely my favorite second to the Book of Mormon. My testimony of Joseph Smith grows immensely when I study D&C which strengthens my testimony of so many other things in the church. I am very grateful for the institute and I am honestly going to miss hanging around there everyday while I am in Mesa over the summer. But I've still got three more years ahead of me to party at the tute.
After my institute class I went to my final english class of the year and found out there was no way that I could get anything lower than an A in that class!! So I am super excited, mostly because it is an honors class and that's a pretty big accomplishment for me.
After class I had intentions to go home after I stopped by the institute to get a water bottle. Instead I decided to help out the sister missionaries in the endeavors to stop people walking by and get some new investigators. It was very windy that day and one of the palm fronds fell off the tree and tried to attack us... luckily we were under the tent and the tent sheltered us and we did not die. Unfortunately, everyone was "talking on their phone" or "in a hurry" so they couldn't stop and talk so no new investigators... yet. After the sisters were done with the tent I decided I should walk home... but then I decided to hang out at the institute a little longer and somehow ended up at Chipotle with a bunch of people that were hanging out at the institute.
After the fun chipotle trip Steph and I went to Buffalo Exchange to see if I wanted to buy a new dress for the dance or not, and eventually decided not, my senior homecoming dress will have to do. After that quick fun trip to Buffalo we went over to my brothers' apartment so we could go to Cold Stone with them, Bert and Hung to celebrate Hung getting into Grad school in San Diego!!!
After the trip to cold stone we went back to EJs place to play some rock band... I probably should have been studying for my anthropology final that happened this morning... but living my dream of being in a garage band seemed more important at the time.

Wednesday
I woke up this morning at 6 AM because I remembered that my french speaking final was due at noon and I wouldn't have the time to do it later in the day so I had to do it right then, turns out my teacher messed up on the instructions for the final so it was pushed back to Friday... so I got up at 6 in the morning for nothing... super lame. Well maybe not for nothing, I did end up studying for my anthropology exam.
Today was the last day of classes so I was anxious to get through all of my classes. I spent my entire philosophy class playing doge 2048, then I had my anthropology exam (which I think I did ehhhhh on, not enough to get me and A, but well enough for a high B). In my french class it was an extra credit day so it was super easy and fun and I got extra credit so win win win.
After my french class I went to my work party to celebrate all the accomplishments we had this semester at work and to say goodbye to all the peer mentors who are graduating or leaving and to say goodbye to my boss Allie who is getting married and moving to North Carolina.
It was a super emotional and sometimes awkward parties... there was not a dry eye in the room... except for me... I did a good job of holding it in.
I am so thankful for this job (and for Taylor for getting me the job in the first place), we have all become this close knit family with the students and our bosses. It's going to be so weird next year with half the students gone and new students coming in, new peer mentors and a new boss, but I am very excited to come back in the fall and continue with all the smiles and laughs and fun adventures that the students bring to me.
The rest of my work day was pretty normal, except it was sad to think that this was the last time I was going to class with my student Matthew.

Tonight's plans consist of the last roomie dinner of the school year and then going to play murder in the dark at a creepy church building!
