A Weekend in Tucson

I know this may be shocking, but I actually did not go to Mesa this weekend, I stayed in Tucson for some hardcore raging party times.

Friday
The usual schedule class, devotional, dollar lunch, class, work. For devotional we had the BEST speaker in the world come speak to us her name is Josie Thompson, if you have never heard of her I encourage you all to go look at her blog/website: josiethompson.com. So this girl is literally the best speaker I have ever heard, she is hilarious and SO full of the spirit... she also didn't speak with a sing-song voice, and I have much respect for women who can bring the spirit into a room so strongly without using a sing-song voice (not that that kind of voice is bad, I just love it because you don't hear a lot of women speak in thunderous strong voices like Josie did). She spoke little about her mental illness and a lot about the experiences and adventures she had because of her trials and how she has grown so much from them. If you live in the valley and you're looking for a speaker for some church thing, I HIGHLY recommend her!
At work I got to see my homeboy Edgar on his 21st birthday! On his Ipad he has a countdown to major events going on in his life/the world but his all time favorite countdown to show to people is his birthday countdown. Everyday I worked he showed me the countdown to his birthday AT LEAST 3 times. Everyone was very excited that the day has finally come, and just to let you all know, he did indeed already start the countdown over.
At night Lauren, Steph and I went to the game night that was going on at the institute and spent a majority of our time playing taboo, although another guy there insisted that we played Quelf instead.
After the game night Lauren, Maddy, Lexe, EJ, Rory, Ryan, Matt, Soukey and I went to an event that was going on on campus called Cat Crawl, it went from 10 pm to 2 am and there was laser tag, a dance party, a casino, karaoke, a photo booth, caricature artist and a free food! When we got there we had to wait in line while we listened to this brother/pastor (who is often on campus preaching the passerbys) tell us all that we all deserved hell... We were honestly just laughing the entire time at everything he said to us, I'm not sure if he was ever effective enough to get people to join his cause, or whatever he was doing, I don't really know.
Once we got our wristbands to go in we met up with Taylor, Natalie and some of the Project FOCUS students including Edgar, Estefany and Valerie! Our first stop on our night adventure was to go to the dance party and boy can those students get down on the dance floor, they are such a fun bunch to be around. Oh and of course our little mormon group raged rather hard, although there were not many other people on the dancefloor at that time.
After the dancing Lexe and Lauren went home and the rest of us got in line for some hardcore laser tag. While we were waiting in line some more friends joined our party and eventually we were entertained by Drew twerking on the wall
I am reclaiming my title as Queen of laser tag and sharing it with Maddy because we never got killed. Here is a picture of us with our fierce laser tag equipment
After laser tag we were all pretty exhausted, we went and looked at the casino and the karaoke room but didn't feel it so we decided it was time to kick it.

Saturday
Woke up after about 4 hours of sleep with toothpaste in one hand and toilet paper in the other (I am a really great sleep walker/talker if you all did not already know that). My brothers came to pick me up around 6:30 to go to Casa Grande to meet up with my mother to exchange some documents for Rory, since my mother was in a hurry to get back for the temple celebration she gave us money to go to breakfast without her, so we decided to go to IHOP and then made our way back to Tucson. When I got back Lauren and Steph were still sleeping so I just planted myself on the couch and watched some disney channel as most college students would do on a Saturday morning.
Eventually they woke up and Lauren went out to do her various Saturday things, and then Steph and I went to chipotle and then went and saw Frozen (note: that was the 4th time Steph has seen it but only the 2nd time for me). After the movie we went shopping for our outfits for the thug birthday party happening for Amy Flood later that night.
When we were done shopping I came home, made myself a quesadilla, made a giant dollar sign necklace and then watched the cultural celebration for the Gilbert Temple. Man, let me tell you, I have never wanted to be a senior in high school (which by the way is the grade I am supposed to be in) just so I could have been apart of the celebration! Just from watching it on TV I could feel the spirit. The performance was so amazing, I know a lot of hard work went in to pulling this off and for everyone that helped put it all together, all your hard work really paid off, it looked spectacular. At one point I saw my home ward on TV and literally screamed in excitement and texted/tweeted to show everyone. If you have observant eyes like me you can see my darling sister McKenzie on the far right!
I'd have to say my hands down favorite part of the cultural celebration was when the entire congregation of people started singing Army of Helaman (which by the way is my all time favorite primary song, if there was one thing that would make me want to go on a mission it would be that song a lone). At the beginning of the song they had all the people who had mission calls from the temple district and would be leaving soon, walk out with their mission countries flag, and you know who the first two people were that walked out? SADIE AND PARKER!

I started balling when I saw them. I am going to miss both of them so much while they are out servingm but I know without a doubt they are going to be the greatest missionaries and will help bring people closer to God! I can only imagine the spirit that was felt there at discovery park during that part because I was overwhelmed with it sitting on my couch this morning re-watching it.
On a much less spiritual note, after watching the celebration, Lauren, Steph and I got ready for the birthday party.  The party had all the best hiphop songs that we got our groove on to with some awesome lights as well! Here are some photos of our thug moves and our costumes...

After the party we came back home watched the Little Mermaid and the went to sleep. Pretty rocking weekend if you ask me, apparently I don't have to go to Mesa to have fun anymore lol.
Now I am listing to Army of Helaman by InsideOut on repeat!
2 more weeks until Spring Break!
1 month until Sadie leaves on her mission (still crying)

Oh& since I am not proactive and was unable to go to the dedication I spent my time reading the scriptures. I have this piece of paper I got from young womens called "Scriptural Directory Assistance" I go to it often when I don't know where to look in my scriptures but I know I need to look. A common theme recently for me and some conversations I've had is building up a testimony. There are certain things in my life that I know I have a sure testimony of but then there are others that I definitely do not and that I feel are big aspects of the church, so it's important for me to have a testimony of them in order to fully know the truthfulness of the church in its entirety. As I was reading today I looked to my directory and sure enough there is a scripture for when you need to develop a testimony. So here is me sharing the scripture from my study to hopefully benefit anyone who needs a testimony: Alma 32:28

Here is a picture of my directory:
