So I have to back up to Thursday... Thursday night was very exciting because it was Soukey's baptism! I was both very excited and a little bit nervous... super excited for Soukey and the amazing decision he made to get baptized... but rather nervous because he asked me to give a talk on baptism at his baptism.
His baptism was a super awesome experience, and I am so proud of Soukey and this decision he made. He is such a super awesome kid and has such a strong testimony that I wish I would've had when I had gotten baptized!
After the baptism there were some refreshments! Steph made scotcheroos, Annabeth made oreo balls and Ali made a "happy pre- re- belated anniversary of birthday" cake (it's a very complicated name I know).
Here is the cake that Ali made!
Of course there were going to be pictures taken after everyone had gotten their fair share of refreshments... and if I had learned anything from the picture taking moments... is that I should never let EJ near a camera because he is bound to photo bomb. Like this...
And if you asked him to take a picture for you he will take one good picture and then multiple pictures that look similar to this...
But we did actually end up getting some good pictures from the baptism after a couple tries...
Then Friday came along, and that meant I was going home!
Sometimes I think I go home too much, but when an opportunity comes up for me to go I always take it. It's always a blast when I come home, and I do not ever regret it!
So this was the first weekend that I came home... really for no reason. Every other time I have come home it was for a wedding, or for a birthday. This weekend I really just wanted a break, and just to hang out with my friends and family.
On Friday, after a couple of my classes, Steph was once again kind enough to drive me to Casa Grande so my mother doesn't have to drive the whole way to Tucson. It's always a party driving to Casa Grande with Steph, because we have the playlist of champions. Song choices may vary but must always include Come on Eileen, Total Eclipse of the Heart, and Alone (either the original version by Heart or the Celine Dion cover, and if it is the cover then it is a requirement to sing and dance like Celine).
Once I was traded off, my mother, Avery and I made our way to Mesa. First order of business was pick McKenzie up from school, and then we had to pick up a crap ton of doughnuts for the day of service that was going to take place the next day. Then we all headed over to the church to assist in setting up for the trunk-or-treat. After set up McKenzie went to the homecoming game at the school (which I was almost forced into going to). I stuck around at the trunk or treat and partied with my girl Avery.
She was dressed up as the most fabulous giraffe you have ever seen.
During the trunk or treat I got to catch up with all of my favorite Moms at my home ward, who also happen to be my top readers of the blog (here is your shout out ladies).
Since most of my friends from the ward, are all on missions and off at different colleges, I hung out with Avery and all the cool moms... which I now realize would have probably made people assume that Avery was my kid if they had not known me or my family previously.
Also shout out to Jodee McDonnell for making the coolest giraffe arm paintings for Avery, Sister Heslop and I. You could start a giraffe drawing business girl.
Here are some pictures of me and Avery sporting our cool new arm art...
My family is always so cute when it comes to group halloween costumes. This year my day was a ring leader while my mom and Avery were the animals (Avery= giraffe, Mother=zebra)
As the trunk or treat started to settle down and come to a close, I took Avery to bahama bucks so she would not be a distraction for the clean up crew and so I could visit Sadie at work. I came at the perfect time because I also got to see Trevor before he left for the football game. Then I went to pick McKenzie up from the game and she treated me to the taco bell she promised me long ago. There's nothing better than a late nigh mountain dew freeze, a churro, and some sister time.
After everyone got off work, and the football game was over I went to hang out with Sadie, Parker, Zach and Trevor... we really didn't do much. But honestly it is those late night lazy hang outs that I miss the most about Mesa and my friends.
On Saturday I was surprised to wake up bright and early to go participate in the day of service for my ward. I did not know I was doing this, so waking up at 6 am was quite a bit of a struggle especially since I didn't get home until 2 in the morning. It was a nice experience though... cleaning peoples houses.
The rest of my morning and early afternoon was dedicated to Avery while everyone in my family was taking naps. But I wasn't complaining because I love spending time with Avery and her absolutely crazy personality. We watched many shows... taking turns between me marathoning Raising Hope and her marathoning Jessie.
After some solid Avery time I went to go hang out with my homeboy Zachary at his neighborhood carnival for a little bit, and watch my sister in how she acts around boys. It's always nice catching up and chilling with Zach, he is one person that never fails to make me laugh whenever I'm around him. I've certainly been lucky to have him as a friend. After the carnival, I drove Zach to work and then went to hang out with Sadie. Our plan for the night was to go to a haunted house, but before we could do that, we of course had to get some mountain dew from valero. It was the greatest moment of my whole life, walking into valero and seeing a BRAND NEW mountain dew flavor sitting there waiting for me to buy.
If any of you are mountain dew fanatics as I am, I strongly suggest you try this new game fuel berry flavor. Although it is not better than voltage, it is a close second.
P.S. Thank you Sadie for buying it while I was having account problems, I still owe you half.
Once we got our mountain dew we headed over to fiesta mall for two haunted houses. Since it was at a mall, I didn't have too high of expectations, I thought maybe I'd get spooked a little but I was really actually terrified at certain points... so terrified that I threw myself up against a wall from a clown... I thought it was totally worth it.
And of course, we had to take a reuniting best friends photo at the haunted house... we took two, so we wouldn't repost each others pictures on instagram/twitter.
After the haunted houses we went to chipotle and we got free chips and salsa (I'm telling you people I always get something for free at chiptole... always). Then we went and visited Zach at work and munch on our chips.
Then we went on an adventure. We were going to "plum" Trevors car, so when he got back from homecoming he would freak out (Trevor hates plums, which is why we were doing this). We bought two plums for a total of 24 cents and then went to his house to put a plum on his car and on his front porch. We even left him a note that said "Hope you "plum'-itted into the best night of your life" (props to Sadie for coming up with that pun, she's the best.
Once we had placed the plums in their proper positions, Sadie and I did not know what to do so we just sat in front of Trevors house in her car for about 45 minutes just talking about life and all the fun things in it. Although that may sounds boring, I really enjoy just talking to Sadie and catching up on both of our lives. Even though we might not see each other for weeks at a time, I know nothing will ever change between us, she is always going to be my number one best friend. I'm super excited for her and her decision to go on a mission, and I can't wait until she gets her call (I'm crossing my fingers that she gets somewhere super awesome and foreign... like Australia ;) )
Conveniently after some time had passed, Trevor arrived at his house with his date and Cob and his date, so I got to see them looking all snazzy in their homecoming clothes with their adorable dates. We also got to see Trevors reaction to the plums which was awesome.
After some chit chatting with that group, Sadie and I went back to bahama bucks and waited for Zach to get off work. While we waited, my mountain dew finally kicked in and we had a dance party in the parking lot. Ain't nobody got better moves than me and Sadie.
On Sunday I went to church, caught up with a lot of people, the usual. Then went to have one last hoorah with Trevor, Zach, Sadie and Parker. Before I knew it, it was time to go back.
Leaving all my friends is never easy, but it's becoming less emotional for me, because I know that I will be back soon enough. Even though I always miss the times I had in Mesa with my friends, I am happy I live in Tucson and get to make new friends and new memories.
