7 Days
Remember in my last blog post how I talked about Derrick leaving on his mission and everything... hahah well he is back now, and the world is all the more entertaining because of his 7 day mission in Redlands. The day after he got home I went to lunch with him at Mod Pizza. At this point only his family, myself, Zach and McKenzie had known that he had come home. And at lunch we decided to reveal it to the Strippers by just randomly adding him back into the group message. I couldn't stop laughing it was so hilarious, everyone was so confused and didn't believe that he was actually home. Poor Kara was the most confused out of everyone so Derrick gave her a call and after the call ended she texted in the group "Now I am even more confused," bless Kara's heart hahaha. It was great entertainment for sure.
Shake Shack
The other week Trevor was talking about how he good Shake Shack was when he went to the east coast and how he wished that we had one here... turns out there are a handful of Shake Shacks in the valley, but all in Scottsdale and Phoenix area. As a Fam party we made a trip out to the Scottsdale mall to try out Shake Shack and see how it compared to In N Out.
Any normal person would have ordered a burger in order to do an accurate comparison of the two, which is what Sadie, Parker, Zach and Trev did. I on the other hand am a real sucker for a good hot dog... and I am kind of picky about it. I only like hot dogs that are 100% beef, and sure enough on the Shake Shack menu in the description of their hot dog it says:
"100% all-natural Vienna beef with no hormones and no antibiotics ever, served on a non-GMO Martin’s Potato Roll"
As soon as I read the description I was sold on it... and it was significantly cheaper than the burgers so it was an all-around good choice. I felt better about ordering a hot-dog at a burger establishment when I found out that the Shake Shack started off as a wee little hot dog stand in New York City... so I went pretty OG with my ordering you might say.
While it's hard for me to compare Shake Shack's hot dog to In-N-Out's burgers... I will say that In-N-Out is much better for its pricing and simple menu. But that hot dog was seriously the greatest food I have ever eaten so Shake Shack wins. Also the Shack's shakes are 100% way better than In N Outs because they have way more flavors.... but if you like simplicity then In-N-Out is wonderful.
Tucson Slime & Super Bowl
You all know how much I love the Super Bowl.... well maybe not the game itself but the entire event. That giant predictions poster is pretty much the most important piece of work that I will ever do in this life. I was originally planning on going to Tucson for the Beezies annual Super Bowl party.. but then I realized I am so broke and I probably shouldn't just go to Tucson on leisure. But my most amazing and loving friends wanted me so badly that they started a Go Fund Me to pay for my gas hahaha... no one paid toward the Go Fund Me but a few angel souls did send me Venmos so I pretty much had to go. I have the greatest friends, no doubt.
So on Saturday Zach, Derrick and I made our way to Tucson for some celebrations and for the Super Bowl party the next day.
When we arrived in Tucson we picked Kenzie up and then we went to lunch at Costa Vida, and because I can't go that north into Tucson without seeing the Tucson temple, I made Zach drive over there as well. Let's just take a second to tell you all how freaking stoked I am that the open house dates have been scheduled for JUNE and that the dedication is in AUGUST... I am so beyond thrilled. I will literally go with anyone from the valley who goes to the open house.
Afterwards we went back to 1320 to watch the basketball game against Oregon. I can't even talk about the game because it makes my blood boil, but if you need anyone to blame the loss on, I used McKenzie and Derrick so I am sure they won't mind taking the blame for you as well.
Later in the day Steph started to try making that slime that has gone viral on Facebook recently. There's quite a few recipes out there and so we decided to make the activity of the night trying out the different recipes. The first recipe that Steph made was great for her but way too sticky for everyone else... then her and I tried another one made by little girls and it just wasn't fluffy at all because of our inadequate ingredients. So Steph and I went out to buy new ingredients and then we made the best slime of all. It started out a little sticky at first but the more we worked at it, it got better.
This stuff is seriously so entertaining... we may have gotten a little too creative with our designs, but it made for a good time.
On Sunday I returned to the old third ward... where Steph, Zach and I had to very unfortunately sit in the very front row of the chapel because the divider was closed.... it was such a struggle. It was lovely to see everyone that I hadn't seen in a month ;) especially the Bishopric who take great interest in my life and my interdigitizing (yes that is what the Bishop said) with Zach hahah. Too good too good.
After church everyone relaxed for awhile and watched Pitch Perfect 2... then it was Super Bowl party time.
This was our biggest Super Bowl party yet, each year the poster just gets a little bit tighter. This years predictors were: me, Zach, Steph, Kenzie, Derrick, Andy, Abby, Brittany, Quandy (Queston and Mandy melted into one), Jonathon/Jay, Alex and Caroline.
We had a few technical difficulties on the Beezies Roku because it wasn't playing the commercials... which really puts a damper on the predictions poster... but eventually we figured it out and were able to look up all the commercials we missed.
I was cheering for the Falcons in this game because they have never won a Super Bowl before, but I was also okay with the Patriots winning because this would be Tom Brady's fifth Super Bowl win, and that just sounds so much better than winning four. The first half of the game wasn't really a game so it wasn't all that entertaining, but man... that fourth quarter... AND OT! I think the rules for OT are absolutely stupid in the NFL...pretty much whoever wins the coin toss is going to win the game. Just another reason why collegiate sports are so much better than professional.
Oh and LADY GAGAS PERFORMANCE I shed a tear. She was so amazing. So many of us were singing along with her during her performance, it was so fabulous.
Zach ended up winning this years predictions poster... you would think by the amount of times I have done this I would be good at guessing... but I am almost always second to last haha. I do want to take pride in the fact that the person I thought would be the first celebrity appearance was Chrissy Tiegen... AND SHE WAS THE SECOND ONE! But props to Derrick for guessing Mark Wahlberg and being correct, skills.
Overall it was a grand old time with all my Tucson friends. We laughed... we yelled... we braided Andy's hair... you know the usual hahaha.
After cleaning up our tracks Zach, Derrick and I made our way back to the valley which is always a little heart breaking but has gotten easier each time lol.
