So Long, Farewell and Happy Birthday

So Long Elder Deezy
Last weekend was Derrick's final weekend in Arizona before he left on his mission right next door to California. On the 21st Rory, Andy, Abby and I went out to dinner with Derrick at Gecko Grill (none of us had been there before besides Derrick, and we all very much enjoyed it). It was just after Arizona schooled UCLA in basketball with the return of Trier, so that dominated most of the conversation at dinner... as well as Abby and Andy catching me up on all of the Tucson happenings.
After dinner Abby, Andy and I went to Derrick's house to play some classic games like Wits & Wagers and Scattegories. But the versions Derrick had of these games were very different than the versions I have ever had, so while they were classics it was a little bit new as well. I am pretty horrible at Wits and Wagers (but sometimes I would make the EXACT same guess as Andy, who is very good at the game, so that made me feel good ) and I am dominate in Scattegories, so it was an all around good night.
Sunday was kind of a crazy day. Kara's Dad and Step Mom wanted to throw her a surprise party for her birthday the same night as Derrick's little farewell party. Luckily, the surprise party was planned for 5, and none of the group actually needed to be at Derrick's party on time.... except for him of course. It was quite the comical evening as far as the surprise party goes because there was a lot of diversions, unnecessary stalling plans and a lot of people getting lost and missing the turn into Kara's house. But eventually everyone made it to the party (well after 5 pm) and we ate some delicious dinner and even more delicious desserts. The funniest part of it all is that Kara's mom and step dad threw her a surprise party in Tucson two days before and neither the mom nor dad knew about the other party, Kara is one lucky girl!
Eventually we made our way over to Derricks farewell party. A couple of highlights: 1) Zach and little children are like magnets to each other, it's always so entertaining to watch him with kids. 2) I got to see THE Lauren Stahle. I honestly forgot that her and Derrick are cousins so OF COURSE she was going to be there, I was totally surprised though... I ended up falling to the ground in excitement. 3) On Saturday Derrick shared with the Strippers a story he had been writing while he was bored at work about the Strippers and a few others. IT WAS SO HILARIOUS and he got everyone's voices and mannerisms down so well. We decided as a parting gift to him that the strippers at the party (Brittany, Kenzie, Andy, Abby, Rory, Derrick and myself) would do a read through of the play. Zach came in and substituted for Harrison and Travis, Derrick also took on Steph's lines, I took on Diana and Carly's and Andrew took on Jenny. We all tried very hard to do Kara's voice while she wasn't there, but none of us could get it just right, and then when she finally arrived and said one line we all erupted into applause and laughter because she said it SO WELL... she was very confused, but it was amazing.
On Monday I said my final goodbye to Derrick by taking some last minute mission pictures for his mom at the temple grounds.... little did we know that the Gilbert temple grounds are closed on Mondays, so we just took pictures in the parking lot instead. Here is my personal favorite:

This kid will be deeply missed by the strippers, but the good news is that he's already 6 months in, so only 18 to go!

Happy Birthday Sadie!
Sadie turned 22 years old on the 25th! How freaking crazy. Sadie and I have been celebrating birthdays together since her 16th birthday.... THATS SIX YEARS OF BIRTHDAYS. Incredible. Since she was already booked by her husband and family on her actual birthday, I reserved her for Tuesday night for a best friend dinner and fam night. I told her she could pick anywhere she wanted to go for dinner and in true Sadie fashion she said "I haven't been to Chick Fil A this week, let's go there." Chick Fil A is one of the best birthday dinners, IMO. So I picked her up, we went to dinner and caught each other up on all the daily happenings (or lack thereof) of our lives. Then we went back to her house and she opened up her present from me (a pineapple cookie jar, a new board game, and a prickly pear soda) and then we just hung out with Parker for a little bit before we went to go pick up Zach and Trev for dessert! She wanted to go to Sub Zero (you know... the only place in all of Arizona to have PINK bubble gum ice cream) and when we got there it WASNT EVEN THERE!!! My heart broke honestly. Instead she suggested we got to Rita's for some Italian Ice and Custard. We got there ten minutes before closing, and although we didn't want to be those people... we went in anyway and ordered super quickly and apologized for being those people, then quickly left. If you haven't been to Rita's before, I highly recommend, it's very delicious.
Then we made our way back to the Whitmore's to play the new game I got her. I honestly can't remember what it's called... but it's a great game filled with 6 second drawings and a lot of guessing. We loved it.
Since Sadie is a real grown up she had to wake up early for work the next morning, so we couldn't party all the way until she turned 22, but it was a fantastic night nonetheless celebrating the most amazing woman on this planet.
I really failed and did not take any photos during the celebration so here is a photo of me and Sadie on her 17th birthday:

We Love Basketball
Since Derrick was leaving on his mission, I convinced him to let me keep his catcard while he was gone so I could take Zach to basketball games with me. It was a successful transaction just in time for the Washington State game on Thursday. I drove Zach to school in the morning and then Rory and I picked him up on the way out to Tucson. I actually got to see Steph Shaw and Jenny Aranda this time around, so I was caught up on a lot of the Tucson happenings from a Beezie perspective (the most important perspective) before we went to the game.
Our basketball group this time around was: me, Zach, Rory, Andy, Abby, Mandy, Brittany, Queston and McKenzie. We had planned to go quite early so that we could save seats for those who could not make it. Andy made the executive decision to sit in the lower bowl (the more fun bowl) of the ZonaZoo because we were there early enough to get the wrist bands to sit down there. It's always a lot more fun and you have a higher chance of getting on the big screen if you're down there.
While we were waiting for the game to start there was a lot of snapchatting happening between Abby, Brittany, Zach and myself.... and it was all very hilarious trying to catch each other with the filters before they noticed.
The game was great and frustrating all at the same time. We won, and that's great.... but we didn't win by as much as we should have, and that's frustrating. But overall it was a wonderful good time with great friends.

That Mysteriously House Shaped Man
My mom got season passes to the Arizona Science Center, so Zach and I joined my mother and Avery on an adventure there on Saturday. You might recall that we went a few weeks prior... it hadn't changed much, but Avery still found it very entertaining. But this time around we went to an Arizona Skies Planetarium show, which was cool but also gave me a major headache. The host of the show was pretty awkward and tried to tell a lot of jokes that weren't funny at all. But there was one that had me DYING of laughter. He was explaining to us how people made up stories about the constellations, and started telling them to us. There is one constellation that is shaped like a house but in the story that constellation is a man and when he introduced the constellation he said the "mysteriously house shaped man"... probably one of those you had to be there moments... but I need to forever remember that moment so I have to document it.

You Learn Something New
After we went to the Science Center we went to Zach's house to hang out with his family for a little bit. His Dad had pulled out a bunch of old photos from when him and Pam were dating at BYU, so we took a little walk down memory lane and then I was introduced to 7 short stories that Thane wrote recalling 7 events from his childhood. Let's just say I learned a lot about the Walton family that day. Someday when Thane publishes his short stories, I encourage you all to go and read it.

Huntonpecks
I joined the Walton family on Sunday night to go to their monthly Hunt/Walton/Peck tri-family dinner. It was a grand old time filled with recalling strange church happenings that day, Hawaiian haystacks, and trying to figure out if me or Tammy Hunt were bigger Twilight/HSM fans... I think Tammy has me beat on Twilight, but I am going to take the win for High School Musical. Tammy also recommended a new show for me and Zach to watch called Hunted on CBS. It's a reality show where 9 duos try to hide from these professional man hunters for 28 days, and if they are successful they win a quarter of a million dollars. It's really good, and I am obsessed now.
