Monday October 10
McKenzie had the genius idea to do a mini Thanksgiving with poutine and mashed potatoes on Monday night for Canadian Thanksgiving! We invited the strippers and a few other people over for a night filled with french fries, gravy, cheese and Canadian music. It was an entertaining evening watching Kenzie, Deezy and Jenny cook for everyone (I did help a little bit with advice on how to make poutine). The food turned out quite delicious though, and Deezy only burned himself one.
I think my favorite part of the night was when we all sang "The Good Old Hockey Game" as a group while we were eating dinner. If there's one song that reminds me of my Canadian childhood, that's the one. Luckily it's a pretty repetitive song so everyone at least got the chorus down and could sing along with us.
We only listened to Canadian artists for the remainder of the evening including: Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, the Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepson, Nickelback etc.
Tuesday October 11
Tuesday was the start of my terror week. So many things to do. So much stress. So many health issues. I thought I was going to implode.
But there were still some good things that happened on Tuesday.
At dollar lunch I redesigned my birthday road trip, it's going to be epic, and I'll be able to knock off two more national parks off the list.
Class was cancelled so I got to spend even more time at the Wildcat doing work. Courtney and I hired TWO new super cool photographers to our desk (whom we desperately needed to hire).
While I was at the Wildcat Beka took this picture of me talking to Alex about hopelessly applying for photographer positions at newspapers across the nation. The three of us have decided that it would be best if we just started our own photo agency in Salt Lake. Seems like a great plan to me, because I HATE applying for jobs, with every fiber of my being.
Tuesday night I came home to Deezy, Kenzie and Jenny laying on the floor in one giant shirt. Leave these kids unsupervised and you never know what is going to happen hahah.
Wednesday October 12
On Wednesday the Naked Strippers were all discussing/coming up with the three questions someone would have to answer correctly in order for them to be your significant other. For example, Harrison's three questions are 1)Tangled or Frozen, 2) Star Wars or Star Trek, and 3) crunchy or creamy peanut butter (Diana [his girlfriend] only got 2/3 correct, but they're cute together so we are letting it slide). I have been thinking about what my three questions would be, and I still haven't been able to come up with them. So if you know me well, you should come up with the three questions for me.
After institute I went to go attempt to talk to border patrol for my article for my capstone class. Apparently you can't just walk into the border patrol office, so I just ended up calling them instead, only to find out that no one had a couple minutes to talk to me on the phone... but they would have a few minutes to write out a statement in email in response to whatever questions I had.... so ridiculous.
Afterwards I picked Deezy up to go shopping for some birthday week goodies for Jenny, and he surprised me with a million packages of Razzles because I was having a rough week. Deezy is seriously the best.
On Wednesday night I had a meeting with my Bishop. When he called me I knew that meant I was getting a calling and I knew in my gut it was going to be a Sunday School teacher and SURE ENOUGH I have been called as a Gospel Doctrine teacher. I'm excited, but also absolutely terrified. I immediately called my Dad since he is the King of Gospel Doctrine, he was pretty excited for me.
Thursday October 13
First day of birthday week for Jenny!
Thursday was a little refreshing at work because I got to hang out with AJ! AJ and I are BFFs buuuuut we have only been scheduled to work together a total of TWO times, so we were both very excited. One of the old Project FOCUS staff came to the UA as a special guest for one of the classes that all the students take, so we got to take a selfie with him. What a day!
After work I worked on my presentation that I was supposed to present during class BUT too many people needed to present and there just wasn't enough time. So now I have more time to procrastinate making an actually kind of good presentation.
On Thursday night the Strippers made their way to Brittany's house for some hot tubbin' fun time. Brittany lives at her grandmas up near Mt Lemmon, and her house has the most magnificent leg/foot massager machine. I highly recommend for anyone who is friends with Brittany to go over to her house just for the massager. Also her hot tub is indeed very hot... so hot you would think it was a sauna.
After we were all done tubbing we all started to take our personality tests and it turns out that I am an ENFJ -T and the description matched me so spot on it was kind of terrifying.
Friday October 14
Chase wasn't at school on Friday so I had the morning off! I woke up to a strange surprise to find out that Kenzie, Deezy and Jenny pulled an all-nighter (kind of) and fell asleep for like two hours on our couches. These kids, I swear, they're crazy.
I was able to go to devotional and we listened to President Benson's talk about the Book of Mormon. President Somerville warned us ahead of time that Benson speaks reeeeallllyyy slowly, but wow I was not expecting that. I was able to finish all of my Friday sudoku during his talk (Friday's sudokus are always the hardest and take me at least half an hour each week). But despite his turtle speed it was a very good talk, it's a classic so I am sure most of you Momo's have heard it.
After devotional it was free lunch. Diana had us take this EXTREMELY STRESSFUL love languages test. I hated it so much and only had minor anxiety attacks the entire time. These were my results which I think are pretty accurate but I would actually put Quality Time over Acts of Service:
No surprise at all that physical touch is the last one!
After free lunch Abby and Kara came over for our weekly Grey's Anatomy date. Then I worked on my article while Abby and Kara brainstormed Halloween costume ideas. Halloween is both so exciting and the best thing in the world, but also so stressful to find the perfect costume that isn't too expensive but will make you unique.
Jenny's Dad Carlos came into town, and he's probably my new favorite human being. He is so much like Jenny it's INSANE. Jenny has the world's greatest parents.
In the evening Abby, Kenzie, Deezy, Brittany and I went to the Red-Blue basketball scrimmage. I LOVE UA BASKETBALL SO MUCH. Just being in McKale center gets me so HYPED. It was so sad knowing that I only have a few basketball games left to go to in my college career, but I am so stoked to get started. I had a great time with Abby teaching the little freshman all the cheers... I was fairly disappointed that most of the crowd didn't know the cheers... probably all freshman.
After the basketball game Abby, Kenzie, Deezy and I were going to watch Star Wars with Steph, Jacob, Rudy and some other people but it turns out the movie was not playing Gallagher with the comfy seats but rather the Highland Bowl. So we ditched that party that we were never really at, got some ice cream at Safeway and watched Ghostbusters. 10/10 would recommend if you haven't already seen it.
Friday was also a fun pain day for me, every time I laughed or yawned or smiled or did anything I felt like I was having a heart attack (don't worry it has stopped now, but man that was not enjoyable AT ALL).
Saturday October 15
So I shot the USC Arizona football game on Saturday. It was pretty painful not only because we were just absolutely destroyed but also because of what this sign told me:
That's right, that freaking turf reached 137 degrees!!! I swear my knees/butt were going to melt right off my body.
Because we were losing so terribly all my good photos just happened to be of USC. I was pretty proud of my positioning for many of USC's touchdowns because I was the ONLY photographer on that side... you probably saw me on TV if you were watching the game and looking close enough.
Doesn't that just look like the most uncomfortable jump ever?
This is me pretending to be happy with that game
After the dreadful game was over I worked on editing my photos and getting them up online, then I met my family at my house and hung out with them for a little bit before they made their way back to Mesa.
Saturday evening, Kenzie, Deezy and I went with Carlos and Jenny to Kneaders for half priced desserts, which is never ever a bad decision.
The rest of the night I wasn't feeling too hot so I just lounged around while Deezy and Kenzie worked on some projects.
Sunday October 16
Church was fantastic, but I had to leave early because I was covering for Courtney at work. I don't like working on Sundays... but they are so dang easy, I wish the weekday production days were as easy. It's also so extremely quiet in the newsroom on Sundays because there aren't just a bunch of random people hanging out in the newsroom... it was so peaceful.
After working I went with Kenzie, Deezy, and Jenny for a small little 5 mile walk at Reid Park.
Here is Deezy's account of the adventure from my point of view:
Sunday night I did something I thought I would never do in my entire life. As you all know I believe that physical activity is a hoax made by doctors to make our bodies break down so that we have to visit them way more often than we actually need to. Deezus started doing a test to see if he could go back on his mission, and that is to walk 5 miles in a row (with no breaks) 3 days straight without having any pain in his knee. The only thing that got me to go was the fact that I had enough pokecoins to get a lucky egg and Reid Park is the best place for Pokemon hunting. Even though Derrick told me I should wear tennis shoes instead of my sandals, I respectfully told him I would be more than fine. Holy Cow. Five miles (with no breaks) is way longer than I originally thought. I am now so sore, but it was still a really fun night considering, and I might have to take up walks (with breaks) on Sunday nights from now on.
*end of account*
After the small stroll we came back to our house and stretched the heck out of our legs to prepare for Monday's 5 mile stroll. Don't worry I will be smart and not wear sandals like I did on Sunday.
