Another Semester Over

Thursday May 5
AKA Dead Day
Who actually spends their dead day studying? I have no idea. But I definitely didn't.
My dead day was actually pretty exciting.
Chastity picked me up to go to the Daily Wildcat banquet with Leah and Amanda! Even though I have worked at the Wildcat for a year and a half, this was actually my first banquet that I attended. I personally think that with photographers there is a disconnect from the newsroom, because they just go shoot their shoots and don't really spend any time in the newsroom and getting to know the million of other staff members. So last year, I thought it would be awkward because I didn't know anyone (besides Chastity, Brandi and my editors). But this year I have spent SO much time in the newsroom, so I figured hey, I should go to the banquet.
I'm glad I went because there was food (I discovered that I like calamari... but I only ate it because I thought it was miniature onion rings), fun people, and lots of fun awards. I wasn't expecting to get an award since I feel like photo can often go under appreciated, BUT I actually got Most Improved (which kind of sounds like a back handed compliment) and I was so psyched about it! It's nice knowing that your work has not gone unnoticed.
As the current photo editor, I took on the responsibility of taking all the super fun pictures of all the super fun people that make up the Daily Wildcat, but I did make sure I appeared in at least a couple, so here are a few from the afternoon:
My photogs (Jen, Carmen, Darien, Alex, Tom, and Courtney).
Courtney is going to be co-editor with me in the fall, and I am so excited to work with her, she's pretty much a goddess.

If something happens in the middle of the night on campus, guarantee these two guys will be there breaking the news. I can always count on Alex to be on the scene without even asking him to be there.

Chastity is hands down my favorite person that works at the newsroom. You all may recall a time where I did Community Chatters with Chastity a year ago. I am so happy we got to spend twice a week together for a whole semester, because she is just the best person ever. I am so excited to be an editor with her in the summer and in the fall!

It's been one interesting semester at the photo desk, but I am very grateful for Tom and all that he has done to get me to where I am today, even though he is just a wee little freshman.

Sports desk + Beka Noble (the woman who hired me at the Wildcat, forever in debt to her)

Alicia, Dom and Brenna. The newsroom would not function without you three

Editors from the 2015-2016 school year

After the banquet, Steph and I went shopping for some things for Connor and Marcus' frat end of the year graduation party, which was also partly Annabeth's grad party but not really. We bought a pool, some food, some decorations, and a fun noise making thing. A shopping trip success.

Friday night I guess you could say I went to my first college party. It was a Daily Wildcat after party, and it was... interesting. The party was right down the street from my house, so I walked with Chastity and Courtney, and I made sure I brought a mountain dew for Chastity and myself so we would not be empty handed at a party. Seeing my coworkers drunk was quite the sight, and I think they would kill me if I shared some of the things they said/did, so I'll just skip to Friday.

Friday May 6
I woke up bright and early to take senior photos for Casey, one of my co-workers at Project Focus. Casey is just a hoot, and makes my job a lot easier, she's just the best. I'm very pleased with how the photos turned out!

I went home for a little bit after the shoot and edited all the photos. Then I was called into work a little bit early because Chase was having a rough day, so I had to go help him out. It was a good time.
After work I went to the Daily Wildcat to start preparing for the commencement photo shoot! So if I haven't already told you.... a few weeks ago I came up with an idea for the cover of the commencement issue of the Daily Wildcat to reenact the opening sequence of Friends... you know the couch, and the lamp and the fountain. Well the shoot happened on Friday, and it was so much fun! I am so happy with how it turned out. We were able to get Wilbur and Manny Felix (the ASUA president) to be part of the shoot. It was just so great. Here's just a little sneak peek:

Oh, and here is a shot that Tom got of me, just for fun:

Shout out to Connor, Caroline and Casey for helping me by being the models.
Bigger shout out to Tom for taking all the fab pictures even though he had never seen Friends before, and not hating me for me taking some too, and for getting Wilbur at the shoot.
Bigger shout out to Alicia for liking my idea and helping me organize it all, and for getting Manny!
Biggest shout out to Brett for helping me get the couch to Old Main, and for paying for Wilbur.

After the shoot we didn't want Wilbur to walk all the way back to McKale center because 1) it's hot and 2) everyone would stop him to take a picture and it would take him forever. So we offered him a ride in our creeper van with the couch. It was the best situation in the world, so obviously I had to take a selfie.

Friday night was the frat party. Steph and I got some Sigma Kappa shirts from a secret source, so we were true sorority girls for the night. I spent most of the night by the fire pit roasting some mallows. It was a pretty tame party because it was 85% mormon. Apparently some neighbors weren't feeling the volume of the music, and called the cops. That's right people the cops came to shut down A MORMON PARTY. Too funny. But it was still fun and I got a nights worth of party in for myself.

Saturday May 7
Steph left for Texas at 3 am, so I was home alone. Party fun time. I spent most of the day editing photos for the special issues of the Daily Wildcat, and studying for my government final. Oh and of course watching One Tree Hill.
In the evening I went to the end of the year institute activity. There was some random performer from Phoenix who put on a concert for us (I can't remember his name, but he was actually pretty good).
At one point during his set he said: "Let's get everyone engaged tonight" (meaning lets get everyone engaged to be married tonight), to which Rory loudly responded "ENGAGE ME" thinking he meant engage them in the music. It was really hilarious, but it was also probably one of those "you had to be there moments).
After the performance there was a lip sync battle, which was very entertaining. I felt weird doing performances by myself, so I only did one with Maddy, Jared and Rory. Well... Maddy and I lip synced Party In The USA (which is like our song for every party) while Jared and Rory just rolled on the stage dancing. It was a hoot.

Sunday May 8
Today was a day to remember because I made it through all three hours of church without any of my roommates with me. I have probably only done this once before, and have come close a couple other times, but I usually dip out after Sunday School. This accomplishment did not go unnoticed thanks to Maddy Truman who congratulated me.
I took my first and last final online today. I feel very good about it, so hopefully I end up with an A in the class.
And with that... I AM DONE WITH THE SEMESTER!!! Now bring on Summer (well the less-than-a-month summer that I get this year haha).

Today is also a very special day, it's Mother's Day! I was pretty bummed that I wasn't going to be home to celebrate with my amazing mother, but I am going home tomorrow for her graduation! I am so grateful for my mom and the woman that she is. She has made me the person that I am today. She's always the life of a party, and willing to go do crazy adventures. She's always on my team, even when it's not in her favor. She has taught me how to love, how to laugh, and how to serve. How I got so lucky to have her as my mother? I will never know, but I sure do thank my Heavenly Father for it every single day.
