Friday February 26
Rory and I decided to spend the weekend in Mesa because neither of us have actually spent a weekend in Mesa since the semester started. I've gone to Mesa a few times, but just to pass through, so I figured it was due time to spend time there.
Since I only had work until 11, but Rory had work until 6, I had to entertain myself for the day. Luckily Fuller House was released on Netflix, so I watched that when I wasn't working, and when I wasn't attempting to do my homework. I also went to devotional and to dollar lunch, so that's always exciting.
Eventually Rory got off work and we made our way to Mesa.
No one in my family knew we were coming, except for my Mom, so it was a nice surprise for our siblings.
Once we arrived and hung around our siblings for a little bit, Zach picked me up for the fam party with Sadie and Trev. We haven't had a fam hang out in awhile, so I was quite stoked. It was also kind of a celebration of Zach's birthday, since I wasn't able to be there on his actual birthday. It was also ANOTHER kind of celebration because Sadie's boy toy was joining us, and I finally got to meet him. It's hard not living in the same city as your best friend because it takes forever to meet their significant others, but I'm glad I finally got to meet him.
So yeah, mini golf. I failed miserably. Not the queen of mini golf today. I ended up coming in last out of the 5 of us, but I wasn't too far behind Trev so that was comforting. I was on the other hand far behind Zach so that was not comforting at all.
After we concluded our round of mini golf, I decided it was imperative for us to go to Cane's since we were already on that side of Mesa. Canes is the best, but it is especially the best in the month of February because you get free stuff whenever you bought a drink. I think out of all the times I went to Cane's in February I ended up with 4 free chicken fingers, 2 free drinks and 1 free sauce. It's the best.
Saturday February 27
So as I mentioned before, I have only passed through Mesa on weekends but never actually stayed there. Every time I come home I try to make sure I say hi to Avery, and she's always heart broken that I am never staying the night. So since I was finally staying the night in Mesa with her I decided I would party with he all day on Saturday.
Our party started with watching Fuller House in the morning, then going shopping with our mother, brother EJ and sister McKenzie (shopping included Kneaders, which makes for a great shopping day), and then the real party started.
Once Zach got off work we took Avery to Build-A-Bear Workshop, so she could... well... you know... build a bear. She was super psyched. It took her quite awhile to pick out the perfect bear, but she finally found the perfect one, stuffed her up nice, gave her a bath, picked out a rocking shirt, and then named her Ariel Heart. Totes adorbs.
And when you let a girl build a bear, you have to go buy her some pretzels, so we went to Wetzels Pretzels and shared some pretzel bites. But then when you buy a girl pretzel bites, she's going to get thirsty, so of course you have to go to Circle K to get her a blue raspberry slushie. But if you buy a girl a blue slushie she's going to have a lot of energy, so you have to take her to Zach's house to play around.
Enough with the If You Give A Mouse a Cookie crap.... haha just kidding.
But we really did take her to Zach's house to release energy. We played basketball, we rode a weird riding device that I don't know what it's called, we played tether ball, we rode scooters to the park to do some obstacle courses and to do some gymnastics. So clearly, it was a great time.
Eventually we decided to go back to my house so she could show off her new bear to everyone. Then we just hung out for a little bit until she fell asleep.
Then Zach and I being super spontaneous at 9 pm decided to go to Dave & Buster's. It was our first time going, and I actually really loved it. I have an addiction to those games where you insert a coin to a machine and try to get other coins to fall off the platform. That's where we spent most of our money... and won the most tickets. But it was a lot of fun! We ended up collecting the following prizes: a dave and buster's cup, some fun dip, a nerds rope and a Chinese finger trap thing. Not necessarily worth the money we spent, but the experience was worth it for sure.
Sunday February 28
One of my old pals from high school Logan Jensen came home from his mission in Mexico this week, and his farewell talk was on Sunday, so I decided to go. Bonus: he's in Zach's ward, so I just got to sit with Zach and his family.
Logan is such a funny character, when he was speaking he seemed so much like himself just with a think Mexican accent.
Logan once described my cheeks as having lollipops implanted into my face, he's a hoot. That has no relevance to his homecoming talk, it was just a funny story.
Afterwards I went back to my house, packed up my things and hung out for a little bit. Once Zach got out of church he came to say goodbye, and then Rory and I were off back to Tucson.
We tried to watch the Oscars. We don't have cable at my house but we do have Roku, so we are usually able to watch things live by signing into one our parent's cable accounts. Turns out in order to watch the Oscars live you have to be in a specific city... none of the specific cities were Tucson unfortunately, so we weren't able to watch it live from the ABC app. Then we turned to Youtube and found a couple channels who were streaming it... that lasted for about 20 minutes before Disney caught on and shut the streaming down. It was all quite frustrating. Get your act together ABC!
Monday February 29
Work at Project Focus was kind of exciting because Michelle was out sick so I got to hang out with some students who I haven't hung out with before this semester. It was a nice change of scenery not standing watching Michelle clean table for 2 1/2 hours.
Work again at Daily Wildcat... nothing exciting.
For FHE they played Volleyball... I sat on the sidelines and did some work. I left early to go to Barnes & Noble to buy a book for my Beltway class. Steph and Rory tagged along and hung out in the bookstore way longer than it took me to find my book, but it's all good, bookstores are fun. Since I was already half way there, I decided I should probably get Canes for dinner since I had some free coupons. Best decision.
Tuesday March 1
Happy March! A glorious month full of basketball and spring break and happiness.
I had school as I usually do all day long, nothing too grand happened.
After school I went to the John Valenzuela Youth Center to conduct some interviews for one of my broadcasting projects, so that was an exciting party of my day.
Then the rest of the day was just dedicated to doing homework.
Wednesday March 2
This was kind of a weird day because I got off work early to go film the children at the Youth Center for my project. THE CHILDREN WERE SO ADORABLE OH MY GOSH. I just wanted to pick them all up and squeeze them forever. I couldn't stay too long though because I still had my editing class at 3... probably the longest class of my life... it's dreadful. Because I survived the class I decided to treat myself with some Chipotle.
Also on Wednesday I realized that I do not have any business professional clothes, according to the definition of my internship coordinator. I needed such clothes because I have interviews for 3 internships today (Friday) and my coordinator was very strict about everyone wearing business professional. So I went to Target (heaven) to go find an outfit... why is it so expensive to look classy and professional... I know that since I was at Target I probably got a great bargain compared to the real nice stuff... but it still felt like a whole lot. I also look like a child in the blazer... so that's fun. If I don't get an internship with this outfit, I'll cry forever... maybe not...but probably.
Thursday March 3
School as usual. I had to turn in my broadcasting project and I think it turned out pretty good, so I am happy about that! But other than that, nothing really that exciting happened.
But boy was the basketball game exciting!
You might recall that I attended our last devastating game against Cal in January. It was heart breaking. We really needed our revenge on Thursday. The game was so slow moving and so low scoring in the first half it was extremely frustrating, especially so because we were down the entire time. My favorite player, York, didn't make one shot in the first half. It was insane.
BUT THAT SECOND HALF! Holy heart attack. And York's three's? Woooooooo those were flawless. He's my favorite player for a reason people. It was a great night in McKale, even though I don't think my heart will ever recover.
Friday March 4
So I have 3 interviews today: Arizona Daily Star, Sahuarita Sun, and Tucson Sentinel. Hopefully they don't think I look too much like a child, and maybe they will hire me. All fingers crossed!
