Thursday February 11
School. Cancelled Class. ZACH CAME!
And then it was Steph's birthday par-tay! If you have been a long time stalker of my life, then you can probably recall the super fun parties 1320 throws for our birthday's, but things were just a little too crazy this semester, so Steph decided to skip the usual karaoke dance party fun time that we do so well. Instead she invited a bunch of people to come to see Zoolander 2! Imagine that... a bunch of mormons watching Zoolander 2. I thought it was hilarious, others thought it was hilarious, some thought it was a waste of their time [you don't even go here], but overall it was a lot of fun!
After the movie the peeps came back to our house for some cake, and to tell Steph everything we love about her.
Friday February 12
I had work in the morning. I met Zach and Steph at devotional, then there was dollar lunch [hallelujah]. Then I dragged Zach to the newsroom with me to work on some editing stuff. After I was done in the newsroom, we went back to my house... then I got a call from Chastity [a reporter for the Daily Wildcat and my homie] called me asking if a photographer had claimed the request to photograph a groundbreaking for the CATS Academic Center.... No one had, so being the super woman that I am, I dragged Zach over to campus to photograph the ground breaking. He's such a champ for putting up with all my work.
Later Zach and I went to dinner with Steph at Humble Pie [super delicious, I definitely recommend]. We got to watch the Arizona v UCLA game while we were there, I was real stressed about it, but so psyched that we won.
Saturday February 13
Saturday was super exciting because Steph, Zach and I were pretty convinced that Zach's mission call would come that day, so we made the perfect plan. We were going to go up Mt Lemmon in the morning, and then be back to Tucson in time to find out if the mission call came, and then once it did we would make our way to Mesa.
So we started out the plan as usual, we went up Mt Lemmon. Steph has wanted to go up for awhile to see snow. I didn't think there would still be snow up there because of the warm fronts, so I decided to wear sandals. But of course there was indeed snow once we got up high enough, and I couldn't pass up playing in the snow...... I probably should've lost a toe.... it was soooo freezing. And some part of the snow were like sink holes so if you stepped in the wrong spot, all of a sudden your whole leg is in the snow... it was interesting. But we did get some good pics!
Her face expresses how cold the snow was
Then we went to Summerhaven to introduce Zach to the cookie cabin, we ended up getting a sampler cookie (which is the best thing there in my opinion)
Then we started making our way down the mountain. We made it back to Tucson a little too early so we went back to our house so I could edit photos and do some work.... but then we get the text..... no call..... To say we were bummed is a real understatement, I couldn't wait any longer.
So now that our plans to go to Mesa were spoiled, Zach and I decided to go get a late lunch at Native [probably our second favorite date place haha]. Since this was the day we were celebrating Valentine's Day [he had to go home Saturday night so we wouldn't have been together on the actual day] we were trying to come up with fun things to do, but we ended up buying some treats and having a night in with a movie. The perfect Valentine's Day for me... except when he had to leave... seriously never gets an easier [and I keep thinking it will].
Did you know that even though Zach and I have only been dating for two years, we have been each other's valentines four years in a row... craaaaazy!
*fast forward*
Tuesday February 18
Since I am going to Vegas this weekend, I didn't really want to work on Saturday, so I switched a work day with Tom, and ended up working my first production night on Tuesday [for those of you who do not know, the days that I edit are all online days which means I do not necessarily have to be at the newsroom when I do my work. But production days are when a physical newspaper runs the next day, and I do have to be in the newsroom while I work]. So just to be clear, I did have to be in the newsroom for a majority of the night on Tuesday.
AND GUESS WHAT COMES
ZACH'S FREAKING MISSION CALL
I was so so so so so excited but so so so so so sad I wouldn't be there to watch him open it, and I wanted him to open the call IMMEDIATELY, I didn't want him to wait for me. But Zach is the most perfect human being in the world and insisted [despite my wishes] that I be there when he opened it, so he decided to open it on Wednesday night instead. Seriously, how am I so lucky... I don't think I could've had that kind of patience.
So yeah, production. Chastity is a doll and a half and hung out with me all night. Work wasn't as stressful as I thought it was going to be, and everyone was really helpful whenever I had questions. Luckily it was a night without any turn around stories or late games, so I ended up getting home just a little after 9 [shout out to Steph for picking me up so I didn't have to walk home in the dark].
Wednesday February 19
I wanted to skip the entire day and just be in Mesa so I could finally know where Zach would be serving his mission... but alas I still had work... and a class... and a meeting I had to attend for a project. And boy was it a stressful day.
Work: I go to an "internship" with one of my student's at Cactus Grill [a restaurant in the Student Union], she busses the tables, super fun. Well this student lost her shirt somewhere in between her changing into her uniform and going to work. We didn't know this until after she was done working and it was all just a meltdown from there. Lots of miscommunication... lots of her not listening to me... lots of her yelling at me.... just lots of stress. I don't even want to relive it again by typing it all out...
Class: So I needed to attend an ASUA meeting for one of my broadcasting projects, unfortunately the meeting was scheduled to be at 4:30 and my class goes from 3-5:30. So I had to leave class early. Luckily my professor was super understanding, and even let me take all the work that I was missing home with me to turn in the next day. But apparently they ordered pizza during my absence, so that's a bummer.
Meeting: The ASUA website said the meeting was at 4:30 in the Tubac Room. The sign outside the Tubac room said it was reserved for ASUA from 4:30-6:30. The door to the Tubac room was locked, and the lights were off at 4:29. I go to the ASUA office, turns out they have made a decision this semester to move the meeting to 5... without updating their website.... so I could've been in class for an extra half hour.... I got everything I needed once the meeting started, then I left early, so I could FINALLY make my way to Mesa.
Steph is the best roommate in the whole world and offered to drive me there and back in the same night. I was super freaking out, especially once we got on the 202.... I thought I was going to faint.
Eventually we made it to Zach's house... because I do still work on Wednesday's I needed to get some photos up online ASAP.... and then it was time.....
Here are some videos Thane recorded [I haven't gotten around to editing my video]:
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! HE IS GOING TO BE SERVING IN TRINIDAD! SPANISH SPEAKING!
Words cannot even express how proud of Zach I am. He has come such a long way in even just the past year, and this night just reminded me of the journey he has made to get to this point. He's just so amazing. I am so happy for him and I know Trinidad is the exact perfect place for him to be. I feel so at peace about it. I seriously thought I would be bawling, but I just felt to calm about it, I know it's exactly where he needs to be. Two years is a long time... but it's what he needs to be doing. I know he is going to be such an amazing missionary and change the lives of so many people [maybe even Nicki Minaj?!]. He doesn't leave until June 1, so I've still got lots of time to hog with him, I just have to soak up every minute I have left with him.
103 days people... 103... What am I going to do without him...
Unfortunately Trev had to work, so this was the only Fam that made it
My favorite people
I wish I didn't have to go back to Tucson, I wish I could've stayed up all night with Zach to search everything there is to know about Trinidad. Reality is really quite lame. But I am so happy that I could be there to watch him open it, even though I still think he was crazy for waiting an entire extra day for me, that's love people.
Awesome pics and comments. Love it.
