Dads Are Cool All The Time, But Especially When They Pay For Gas

On Monday it was Taylor's birthday! Taylor is not one to celebrate his own birthday, but Natalie did invite people over to have some dessert and to have a small celebration that night. She made super fantastic worm in mud dessert (I don't know if there is an actual name for that dessert, but worm in mud will do for now). By tradition, we all went around the room saying one sarcastic thing about Taylor and one thing we love about him. He's one heck of a dude, and I am lucky to have him as a friend... really a third older brother.

Earlier in the day, I got a text from my Dad saying the my great grand mother (his grandmother) had passed away, so it way nice to spend the night with some great people.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were just school, nothing too exciting happened. I just wanted it to all go by real fast so I could have an entire week to relax. One nice thing that did happen was in my Law of the Press class on Thursday nights. My professor told the class on Tuesday that Thursday's class would be optional, she wasn't going to take attendance, but she was going to bring food. Out of the 50 or so people who are in the class only 8 of us showed up, and we all got extra credit in some form. My professor also bought A TON of pizza, so pretty much each person got their own pizza.

Thursday night was Heather's last night as our roommate #crycrycry. Steph, Heather and myself decided to celebrate her marriage by having a super low-key bachelorette party. Heather got to choose what we do, and she decided to rent mockingjay because she had never seen it before. We also had takis and ice cream so you know it was a huge party.

On Friday I had work until 11, but afterwards Rory and I made our way home to Mesa so we could go to the funeral on Saturday. Since we left rather early and made it to Mesa rather early, part of my family (+Zach) decided to take Avery to see the new Cinderella movie. Five adults and one child. She also fell asleep during the movie. But I thought it was really good and would recommend to all Disney fans.
When we got home after the movie I was surprised to find my Uncle Josh at my house! I guess everyone else knew he was staying with us to go to the funeral, but neglected to tell me and Rory about it. Nonetheless, it was a great surprise!
The rest of my night was dedicated to Arizona basketball, and them beating UCLA in the semifinals of the Pac 12 tournament.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early to get ready for the funeral, which was going to be held in Avondale. McKenzie, Zach and I drove in my car, Dad, Mom, Rory and Avery drove in their car and Josh was in his truck. We all caravanned together to the funeral, and I was very impressed that I was in the lead for a solid portion of the trip, and tailgated my Dad the rest of the way there.
It was a very tender funeral. There were a few trifold posters of pictures of Hazel from all throughout her life, and piles of pictures that we could take from if we wanted. It was cool to look back at photos from when she was younger because I only remember her as an old lady.
The funeral was open casket, and that brought a whole lot of emotions. My Grandma Richardson was talking to me and my Dad about the aesthetics, and pointed out how it was a good thing they painted her nails, because she always had her nails done, and that is exactly how she would have wanted to be at her own funeral. After the viewing, there was the funeral ceremony, where my Dad talked about Hazel's life. It was so interesting to hear about her life, I really wish I would have paid more attention to the stories she would tell us every time we visited her. After my Dad spoke, there was an open mic for people to share anything they wanted about Hazel, it was rather emotional, but really awesome how so many different people, friends and family, old and young, love and respect her.
Afterwards there was a luncheon with Hazel's favorite meal: Tacos.
Once everyone was done eating we drove out to Palo Verde, where the Richardson graveyard is, and where my great grandpa Richardson (Hazel's first husband) was buried in 1997.

A lot of my ancestors were buried in the grave site, and I think (but don't quote me on this) that the grave stone above is Elmer Jay the first, father of Henry Clay Richardson (my great grandfather), father of Elmer Jay Richardson III (my grandpa), father of Elmer Jay Richardson IV (my father), father of Elmer Jay Richardson V (my brother). You all may be thinking, whoa Sydney you missed II are you an idiot? No, I'm not, Elmer Jay Richardson II was Henry Clay's brother who died at the age of 10.
I am very grateful for the knowledge that I have of God's Plan of Happiness and eternal families. I look forward to the day that I can see and meet my ancestors.

After the burial, Zach and I headed out, and made our way towards Tucson, to attend Heather's wedding! Funeral and wedding in the same day... a little ironic.
We had a lot of time to kill when we got to Tucson, so we went to the mall, bought him new cologne since he was almost out and went and bought new shirts for the both of us. We even got wetzels pretzels, so I would say it was a very successful trip to the mall.

Heather looked so beautiful in her dress, she looked like a princess. Her reception was at a stake center, and I am usually not a very big fan of cultural hall receptions, but they did such a fantastic job transforming it. It was so beautiful and elegant.
She asked me to take some photos of their reception and I did not get one picture of her where she was not smiling, she's such a happy girl and I am so blessed to have been her roommate even though it was for just a few short months.

But I am certainly grateful for the crazy roommates that are still standing!

After the wedding, Zach and I went back to my Tucson house, so I could pick up a few things. We watched a few minutes of the Pac 12 tournament championship game and then made our way back to Mesa. While we were driving I had such an awful feeling that something bad was going to happen and that I really needed to pray, so we said a prayer and luckily we made it safely home! I don't know if something bad would have happened otherwise, but I am glad we prayed and no chance was taken!

Today, my mother, Avery and myself picked EJ up from the airport. He was in Brazil for the past week for work. We got to the airport an hour early so we spent some time in the bookstore they have there. Then EJ's plane arrived a little early, but then his bags took ages to come out. So we spent probably almost two and half hours at the airport. Nothing better.

Later I went to Zach's house to hang out with him and his family. We played Anomia and another game that I cannot remember the name of... but I dominated in both. Well not really dominated, because I did tie with Scott in the game that I don't remember the name of. But Anomia, I won both rounds so I think it's safe to say that I dominated. I love playing games with the Waltons because they can be just as competitive as I am... and they still like to be merciful with me (which is probably helps me win, since I show no mercy)

I am excited for the week that is ahead of me. I already have some big plans to knock out a lot of citied for my 2015 goal! So there will definitely be another video uploaded by the end of the week hopefully!
