Four years ago (holy crap that's a long time ago) I was in an intermediate theatre class at Desert Ridge. We were learning about Readers Theatre and had an assignment to get into groups to create a readers theatre piece and perform in in front of the class a few weeks later. My group included: Rania Zeinnedine, Natalie Booth (now Beeson), Annie Martin, Derek Bearman, Austin McKenzie and myself. If you know anyone in this group you know that they are quite the comedians and they were honestly the funniest people in my class, so when I joined their group I assumed we were going to be doing a really hilarious piece that had people rolling on the floor laughing. Quite on the contrary though, was decided early on that we should do a more serious piece and eventually the theme we chose was 9/11. We wanted it to be a tear jerking experience so we decided that we didn't want it to be known what this piece was about until the near end. So what we decided to do was go through that Tuesday through 6 different perspectives. You will get the rest of the story if you watch the video. It's pretty long so I understand if you don't watch it ;)
Although I have zero recollection of the event (as a five year old living in Canada) it was such an amazing experience to step into the role of someone who experienced the tragedy first hand and to watch some of my peers do the same. I know that our portrayal and my amateur acting could not even compare to how the people felt all around the world, but it certainly helped me to get a glimpse of that.
I have so much respect for all the people who rescued people from the attack and even more so for the people that gave their lives for people they probably did not even know. My love goes out to all the families that were affected in one way or another from this tragedy. If there's anything to learn from those families is that you never know how long you have with someone, so tell them, whoever they may be, that you love them.
