Far away, far awaaaaaay

For all you mormon girls out there who are fond of girls camp, or brothers/parents who were sick of their sisters/daughters singing the camp songs, the title of this blog is in reference to the missionary song.

Since I started University, missionaries and missionary work seems to a be a reoccurring subject. My brother Rory is going to be coming home from his mission in two weeks and I often think about him when I am around the missionaries in my ward. I love singles ward because you really bond with the missionaries as compared to in a family ward where you don't really spend a lot of time with them, or have them over for dinner once a month. I sometimes wonder if my brother is making strong bonds with members similar to the bonds I have made with the missionaries in my ward.

This past week has been full of missionary stuff!
First off, on Wednesday we celebrated the time we have spent with Elder Wasden and had a last hoorah at U-Swirl (by 3rd ward tradition). Elder Wasden has been in my ward the entire time I have been in Tucson and he has become on of my favorites with his love for Ke$ha. I'm going to be very sad when he leaves but he's going to be a great assistant to the mission president.

Not only is Elder Wasden being transferred but Sister Eyre is going home! I am super depressed because she is seriously the coolest and I don't know what I'm going to do without her happy face in my life everyday, but I am very excited for her because she gets to return to Utah to her family and friends who probably miss her a crap ton! Luckily, I am going to see her when I go to Utah in a few weeks for Taylor and Natalies wedding and we can party for real because she won't be a missionary anymore! We will celebrate Sister Eyre at U Swirl probably on Monday!

Alright. So last year in the October General Conference when President Monson announced the missionary age change, I got an extremely excited text from my best friend, Sadie Johnson. She told me that she has always wanted to go on a mission but she thought that going when she was 21 was too late, and how excited she was that the age was lowered to 19, which meant that she could fulfill her desire of going on a mission at an earlier age! Ever since then, she has been preparing to serve! She completed her papers a little while back and for the past couple weeks we've been waiting for her call to arrive anxiously. I was freaking out everyday so I cannot even imagine how she was feeling! Well finally on December 5, 2013 at 2:26 PM I get a text message from Sadie saying that her call was here and that she was going to open it at 8 that night. Unfortunately I am currently living in Tucson, so my next task was to struggle to find someone to drive me to Mesa so I could be there when she opens it! Luckily, I have a fantastic brother who let me take his car so I could be there for her.
So I get to Sadie's house that's filled with her best friends and amazing family, everyone is making their guesses as to where she is going to be called, Sadie was weighing the envelope to see if the weight would correlate with a stateside or foreign mission, everyone was just very excited for Sadie to open it!
A little after 8 Sadie opens her call (she let me sit next to her, I felt so honored)...
(Just look at how calm and collected she is and how... not calm and collected  I am)
She read her letter.... and she was called to the Tegucigalpa Honduras mission!!!!!! (she knew the envelope felt foreign).
Just look at how happy she is! You could really tell that this is exactly where she is supposed to serve!
I am so proud of Sadie and the decision she made to go on a mission! She has been such an amazing best friend to me for the past three years and has been the perfect example for me! The people of Tegucigalpa are gaining one really awesome lady and she is going to bless so many lives just like how she has already blessed mine! I don't know what I am going to do with my hilarious best friend being far far away but I know those dang Hondurians (is that what they're called?) need her more than I do! I'm going to miss her so much but 18 months doesn't even compare to a forever friendship. We still have 116 before she leaves, so there will still be much partying to do, but I am very excited for her and I know she is going to have the time of her life serving the Lord. I love you Saydeeeee, now go show those peasant missionaries how real missionary work is done ;)

Alright... now back to homework/project/finals prep.
