Making Friends

Relief Society Overnighter
I like to think of myself as a very social person, I can talk to pretty much anyone that I want to talk to. But I do much better being social when I have at least one person to fall back on and hang out with that I am already good friends with. So I always try to make sure I bring at least one person with me to every event I go to. Well last weekend was the Relief Society Overnighter in Alpine at the RS President's cabin. While I do know a lot of people in my ward I am not really BFFs with any of the girls, so I was kind of hesitant about going on this overnighter... but I kept thinking what better way to make friends than to actually go. So I went. Luckily I had Kayla Ison a girl who was in young womens with me in the same car as me, so even if I made friends with no one else I did have Kayla.
I was assigned to ride with the Bishop and his wife in their car along with Kayla (the girl from my home ward), Kaytlin  (who I discovered is the daughter of my Dad's best friend), and Anna (a girl who just moved here from Louisiana 6 days before the trip... she is the most social person in the world and would never need a friend to go anywhere). So we had a pretty great car on the 4 ish hour drive. Everyone read books (except me... I played 2048) and had good conversations about books (I did participate in that sometimes) and good conversations just getting to know everyone.
There were two other cars driving at the same time we were (we left at 3) and then a few cars that left later around 6. The 3 o'clock group all met up for dinner at a diner in Alpine just up the road from the cabin. It was fun to see all the other girls and to eat some delicious food (that admittedly made me a little sick, but it was delicious in the moment).
When we got to the cabin we unloaded all the cars, and assigned peopled to beds (how I was lucky enough to get my own bed, I have no idea) and then the games had begun. Here is a list of some of the games I stayed up for (Note: I stayed up until 1, but I heard some horror stories of people going to sleep at 5 and even later):
  • Catch Phrase
  • Encore
  • Signs
  • Mafia
I opted out of signs because it stresses me the heck out and I can never keep up with the sign (especially with how big our group was... since the rest of the girls had arrived by that point as well), but I always have a good excuse and that is to take photos:

I did join in on Mafia and I really owwwwned that game when I was a murderer... I mean I did lose, but I devised such a genius plan that if the detectives didn't spoil it for me I would have won. It was about 4 rounds into that game that I decided to give up and go to sleep though.

The next morning I woke up around 8 and breakfast was already ready. We had pancakes with the worlds sweetest homemade buttermilk syrup. It was during breakfast that I learned how late some of these girls stayed up... I don't know how they did it but I am proud of them.

After breakfast and getting ready I went and explored with Jessica, Amanda and Mariah (three girls who are the younger sisters of three girls in my grade who are all married... makes me feel really cool hahah but these three are actually really awesome so I just forgot the whole age thing).

Then we came back to the cabin to play even more games. Here are just a few of the games that people participated (yes... not just the ones that I did, but I will put a little star next to those ones in case you were curious).

  • Farkle* (I discovered that there are many variations of this game while playing it... I also discovered how frustrated some people can get while playing)
  • Speed Uno*
  • Phase 10 (you know I would have been all over this game, but I returned too late from the exploring)
  • Wizard
  • Spoons
  • Some super dope spaceship game that I don't remember the name of but I thoroughly enjoyed watching
  • Settlers of Catan
  • And probably more that I just didn't catch
One of the ones I didn't participate in was Spoons as you can see from the lack of asterisk... that's because that game really stresses me the eff out... and I have been clawed one too many times playing that game... so once again I opted for the photography.

After some people got a little too gamed out Heather (who I have decided is my spirit animal) got a group together to throw a frisbee out in the field. It was quite the interesting experience playing frisbee out there because all the snow had just recently melted so it was SO MUDDY. Each person that participated was on their own little grass island to keep themselves safe. But of course it was windy so the frisbee often did not go to the island that people were aiming for and went straight into the mud... it was both entertaining and so annoying.

After trekking through the mud to almost see a horse and then trekking back to the cabin it was time for my car to start loading up and make our way back home, but not without some group pictures (even though it doesn't have everyone in it):

FHE Queen
As I may have mentioned in a prior post I am now in charge of FHE week 1 in my ward. I really lucked out that the Bishop already had an idea of what to do for FHE that week and had already spoken to my co-chair about it. Piece of cake. His idea was to have a bonfire out at his empty lot by the superstition mountains. So dope. Unfortunately my co chair wasn't going to be there on Monday so I was manning the event. It did stress me out haha especially the sandwiches part of it (I seriously had multiple nightmare about not getting the subs to the FHE on time hahaha) but luckily Zach, the Bishop and his wife were HUGE helps to me in order to pull it off.
Monday finally rolled around. Zach, Derrick and I loaded up the truck with out firepit, firewood, skewers and smores stuff. Then we picked up the sub sandwiches from Subway and made our way over to the lot and the Bishop and his wife brought the rest of the supplies.
We had a HUGE turn out... and the sub sandwiches were a huge success (especially my choice pick of spicy italian). Bishop winged up a great program that involved a testimony meeting (because how can you really have a bonfire at a church activity and not have a testimony meeting) and everyone seemed to have a great time bonding together. We were lucky (and unlucky) that this was the last night of it being remotely cold outside, so it was perfect bonfire weather.
A lot of people complimented me on executing the worlds greatest fhe ( their words hahaha ) but I made sure everyone knew that this was all Bishops idea... but the subway sandwiches, that was all me.
So I am now dubbing myself FHE Queen even though I really don't deserve it hahaha and Zach deserves to be the King because he was the biggest help.
I also pride myself on the fact that I bought chips for this event. Two bags of those snack bags. One with the regular boring chips, and one with a spicy variety... and that spicy variety was a hit.

Jinxing It
Well people this might be jinxing it but in the past week I have had two interviews for a job with a group of super dope women at a photo equipment company. Both the interviews went well (or so I think they did) and it seems like the exact environment I want to be in... so here's to hoping that i am not jinxing this and I will actually start having a steady flow of income.

Well those are the only exciting things that happened this week, and I figured that overnighter was a long enough thing to make this a post. I did also decide to switch my allegiance from Soda Rush to Sodalicious... even though when Sadie and I went to Sodalicious this week they took far too long for our orders AND someone jacked my soda... not my best experience, but I will give them another chance. ALSO if anyone is in need of some dope floral services Sadie is killing it in her floral design class and just opened up an instagram to showcase her work, so go check her out (sadiesfloraldesign).

But next week is people's spring break and there's lots of exciting things happening (like the Bachelor finale.... California.... me finding out if I got a job), so just you stay tuned.

I lied... there was another exciting thing that happened this week: INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY! Pretty much the greatest day of the year am I riiiight? I am just so blessed to have the most amazing women all throughout my life to influence me and shape me into the person I am today. I know women who have gone through the suckiest of things but still have a smile on their face every single day fighting the good fight and come out even stronger for it. I have been so blessed by mom mom, my grandmas, my aunts, other motherly figures (like all my YW leaders out there), my sisters, my cousins, my friends, my acquaintances and all the girls I stalk on Instagram because I think you are dope. Y'all rock.
