What's An Easy Semester?

Monday January 11
So a couple of fun things happened on Monday. I had my interview for the assistant photo editor position at the Daily Wildcat. The interview went smashingly well, and I ended up hearing that I got the job within the hour! That's right people, you are no longer reading the blog of a mere photographer at the Daily Wildcat, but now the blog of the assistant photo editor. I like to call myself assistant to the photo editor, just to channel my Office fan girl.
Also on Monday there was FHE. We had a snowball fight with these snowball plushies and we even mixed it up a little bit and added some capture the flag aspects to the game. I may have not been the biggest fan of the rules Peter Derek Bradshaw was laying out, but it was a fun time. I only died once and killed a couple of people, so I would say that's a success. I also got to meet the new bishopric. I thought I would be a good person and take initiative to introduce myself rather than flying under the radar. Turns out I probably should have just flown under the radar... but I'll type more about that in a little bit.

Tuesday January 12
Tuesday was my first day back at work with Project FOCUS. The day started out pretty rough because the institute parking lot was locked and there was no one there to let me in, so I had to pay for parking. But I got over that when I saw how excited Tim was to see me. He told me that he was really having a rough morning and was really worried about this new semester, but when I was there waiting for him, he felt a lot better. He's such a sweetheart. I'm pretty bummed that I won't be going to class with him this semester, but I'm sure I will see him around.
After work with Project FOCUS I went straight over to the Wildcat to begin my training as the assistant photo editor. I was there from about 1-7 learning all the ropes. It was all kind of overwhelming at first but I think I have finally got the hang of things, plus Tom (the photo editor) is super awesome and is very helpful whenever I have questions.
After I was done at the Wildcat I came home, and Steph and I immediately left to go to Native for wing night. It's kind of become a tradition for people to go to Native at the start of a new semester. I love it because I love wings and I love trivia.
When I got home from wing night I started to settle in, I grabbed my scriptures to start reading and then I got a phone call from a number that I did not recognize. I usually ignore these types of calls and see if they leave me a voicemail, if they don't leave a voicemail then it wasn't important. But alas this time I did answer the phone and who else was it but my brand new second counselor in my ward calling me to ask if I could speak on Sunday. I have been in 3rd ward for about 2 1/2 years. I have seen many people give multiple talks, but I have always flown under the radar and avoided giving a talk up until Tuesday, Of course I accepted, even though it was a crazy week for me to be writing a talk. The topic was pretty much perfect for me because it's a topic that I have put a lot of thought into over the past few months: why is it important to know that we are children of God. My first thought was to text my Dad and see if he could give me a good scripture or talk as a starting place. Either he fell asleep and never read my text message or he wanted me to do it all on my own... because he never responded. I did start gathering my thoughts together, which I say A+ to me for because I did not procrastinate.

Wednesday January 13
Wednesday was the first official day of classes at the University. I always try to squish my classes into the Tuesdays and Thursdays, but this semester there was no avoiding having one Wednesday class. So now I have work at Project Focus, then 1 class (editing) and then work at the Wildcat. Wednesdays will be fun days.
So this semester at Project FOCUS I am primarily working with Chase and Michelle. Chase is awesome, he loves Lady Gaga and dancing, but it is sometimes difficult for him to turn off his music and stop dancing when it's not appropriate. Michelle is a sass master and is absolutely hilarious, but when she doesn't want to do something she REALLY doesn't want to do it. I've never really worked a lot with either of these students so I am excited to see what this semester holds for us.
This is Michelle at Ben's Bells. We discovered that she really does not enjoy painting, despite the look on her face.
My editing class is so freaking long. It's 2 1/2 hours and the professor takes up every minute of it. I'm happy thought because Danielle (my roomie from Italy) is in that class with me and a lot of other familiar faces. There is a lot of work that goes into this class and it's hard to remember it because it's only once a week, so wish me luck with this class.

Thursday January 14
Thursday is a big class day. I'm just going to go through each class and tell you my thoughts about it.
Mobile App Development: I am really excited about this class, I think it's super cool that I'm going to be making an actual app. The professors are cool, there's lots of cool people in the class, it's going to be a good class guaranteed.
Institute//New Testament part II: I took part I of this class last semester at the exact same time and the class was so small, but this semester the class is huge, which I am really excited about. Annabeth and her boyfriend Jordan are in the class with me and lots of other cool people. I can already tell this is going to be a good class.
Intro to Broadcasting: I am quite scared of this class. I took the class because I thought it would be easy, well I was dead wrong. There's a whole lot of work that's going to go into the class, I just hope I can handle it all. The professors are really nice though, and I have lots of friends in the class.
Inside the Beltway: This class is all about journalism in DC, and I am so psyched about this class. I am also so psyched about the spring break trip I will hopefully (fingers crossed) be taking over spring break with the class to DC. This is the same professor as my editing class so me and her are pretty much going to be BFFs by the end of this semester.

After school on Thursday I went to the Wildcat for some more training before I got to go shoot the basketball game against Washington.
The first half of the game was kind of a nightmare because the battery in the camera I was using died 20 minutes into the first half. Luckily though Tom is the best person in the whole world and scootered all the way to McKale to bring extra batteries and an extra camera. Seriously he's the best. I was able to shoot the rest of the game swimmingly. I ended up getting 3 photos into Friday's paper, including the front page. I was super psyched especially since it was the first basketball game I ever shot.

Friday January 15
Friday was Zach and mine's two year anniversary woooooaaaahhh. We thought we wouldn't be able to see each other so we celebrated during winter break, but Zach ended up being able to come to Tucson, so it was pretty much the best thing ever.
Before he arrived I had work with Project FOCUS, work at the Wildcat where I argued with Tom about the rules of sudoku, and while I was walking back to my car I ran into STEPH LUC!! You all may remember her as my asian bff from freshman year who gave me Ben Kevin. I hadn't seen her in such a long time since she's now living in Colorado, so I was so psyched to see her. I dragged her to the institute so everyone else could see her too, it was all so exciting and all so random.
Zach arrived during all the excitement so I raced to my house so I could see him. We ate some chick fil a, we watched star wars again, we went to native (I may have an addiction) and I made him help me find some things to help me with my talk, we also hung out with Annabeth and Jordan for a little bit. Quite an exciting day.

Saturday January 16
Zach and I went to IHOP in the morning for some breakfast. He is still recovering from his wisdom teeth surgery so it's pretty funny to watch him eat. IHOP brought back their all you can eat pancakes deal, and Zach claims that if he could eat like a normal person and not just with his front teeth he would have eaten a crap ton of pancakes. I am full enough after 2 pancakes, 2 bacon strips, 2 eggs and hashbrowns to even take advantage of the all you can eat deal.
Later we went and drove up A mountain. I have lived in Tucson for 2 1/2 years and never once hiked or driven up A mountain, so I was pretty psyched about it.

Afterwards we went to get some Eegee's (we were doing super Tucson things), went back to my house so I could start forming my notes into a talk, then we watched Sliver Linings Playbook (LOVED it), and then we went to the basketball game!
I was super stoked that Rory was willing to give up his catcard so Zach could go to a game with me. He loves basketball and has really wanted to come to a game here, so I'm happy I could finally make it work! As a bonus I got to meet Caroline's boyfriend Spencer, who just got home from his mission. I've heard lots of things about him (honestly moreso from Ryan because they have a beautiful bromance) and I'm happy he lived up to the hype.

It was a bittersweet night because Arizona won, but as soon as the game was over Zach had to leave to go back home. Goodbyes never seem to get any easier, and honestly they have been even harder knowing that sometime soon our goodbye is going to be a little more permanent (two years) than it has been. But I'm so grateful we get to spend so much time together even though we live in two different cities. Got to get in as much time as possible with him.

Sunday January 17
The day finally came for me to give my talk. I woke up earlier than usual so I could finish my talk and practice it a thousand times before 1 o'clock church.
The talk went swimmingly, I didn't quite meet the ten minute mark but I was close enough so I'm satisfied with how it went. In Sunday school we learned about Lehi's dream and in Relief Society we learned about having peace in our lives. Very good Sunday all around. But 3rd ward is so weird now that we had a big chunk of our ward cut out. We are now the smallest YSA in Tucson, even though we are supposed to be the University ward. Silly silly Tucson stake.

No school/project FOCUS work tomorrow but it is my first official non-training day at the Wildcat so that should be exciting. And later this week I am traveling to California to shoot the Stanford/Cal games. Should be a good week!
