Ciao Da Italia: Tivoli [Where Paolo Romanced Lizzie]

Tuesday June 9
Tuesday was a pretty easy going day. I spent the entire morning working on my Orvieto Farmer's Market project for my advanced journalism class. It turned out much better than I was expecting it too, but I am just so happy it's over with. I now only have one more multimedia piece I need to create, and the rest are just photographs, happy days!
Danielle took full advantage of Caroline staying with us for a couple of days and used her as a subject for an environmental portrait and interview. Caroline is going to be super famous in the journalism school.
While I was in class from 2-4, Caroline went exploring and ended up getting lost and meeting the old Orvieto fire chief, who ended up giving her a private tour of the duomo for free (it usually costs money), she totally lucked out.
After my class, Caroline and I went to the travel agency so she could buy her train tickets (and we did so successfully and pretty cheap too). Then we met up with Brandi, went on a hunt for some cough drops, bought some delicious chocolate bars instead, and then went to the duomo so Brandi and I could take pictures of it for an assignment for class (we had to pick one architecturally interesting building and photograph it from the same place/position at three different times during the day).

And then I had to take a picture with Caroline because otherwise how would you know if she was even with me?
After photographing the duomo we did actually find cough drops, go us! I also found a fun sleeping cat and a fun cactus, what fun.

Reminds me of Arizona

Once we were done with that adventuring, Danielle got out of class, and the four of us went to my favorite pizza place in Orvieto. Nothing better than that Diavola pizza people... except pepperoni of course.

Later at night Caroline, Brandi and I went back to the duomo to take a night shot for the assignment.

And since it is socially unacceptable for us to step outside of our apartment without getting a treat, we stopped for some gelato on the way home.

Wednesday June 10
Field trip to Tivoli day!!!
We had to meet at the busses on 8 am... very dreadful. You know how difficult it is to get 4 girls ready before 8 am with only one mirror? It's interesting... I used my computer camera as a mirror so everyone would be ready in time. And we successfully did so! We even made it to the busses before the busses got there!
On the drive to Tivoli everyone was knocked out up until we got to the rest stop, then we all got our red bulls and breakfast to keep us going through the day.

The first stop of the field trip was to Hadrian's Villa. Hadrian was the emperor of Rome once upon a time, and built a HUGE villa for himself and his favorite people. A lot of the buildings have remains, but a lot has deteriorated over the years, so you will have to use your imagination with these photos.

Selfies are always a necessity

Caroline is not impressed

If I am ever near Aaren with my camera, he poses until I take a picture

After spending time in the villa we headed into the central part of the city of Tivoli. We had a break to eat lunch and explore a little bit.
For lunch we went to a restaurant called Ariston that had free wifi but refused to let me and Danielle join, so that was a bummer. The even bigger bummer was that Caroline, Danielle and I all ordered burgers #Merica and they were awful #AmericaWinsAgain. Brandi got a kick out of us and our willingness to dive into the Italian culture.

See the guy sitting next to Danielle? His table bought desserts for us! It was delicious, unlike the hamburger.
After lunch we went to a few different shops to do some souvenir shopping and then we got to explore Villa D'Este. If you didn't know, this is where the garden scene was filmed in the Lizzie McGuire movie, so this made up for not being able to find my blonde doppelgänger in Rome. Also, just in general, this place was so beautiful! You would seriously have no idea that it's there and yet it is so huge! If you ever go to Italy, this place is a must!

Caroline said I should sit on this pot, it was a good idea

Side note: 99.9% of this outfit was blue. My bra was the only non blue thing on me... tmi? oh well.

After walking up and down many steps, we exited the garden and I went to get gelato. I saw a chocolate with hazelnut flavor and this is how my conversation with the server went
Me: Does that one taste like nutella?
Lady: No, it tastes like hazelnuts
I order it
Me: This is nutella

Eventually it was time to get back with our tour group and head back to Orvieto. Alba is hilarious and makes us line up so she can count everyone

On the bus ride home we all went straight to sleep, but I was woken up by a crazy rain storm. Italy can be just as bipolar as Arizona sometimes people!

When we got back to Orvieto I sat and worked on all my pictures, explored my options on AirBnB for when I leave Orvieto, and then went with Caroline to try and buy a shirt for her boyfriend who is on a mission. Unfortunately the shop owners in Orvieto are not party animals so they close early (or does that mean they are party animals?) so we had no luck finding a shirt. But we did stop at a bakery so Caroline could get gelato, and we got a free sample of the lemon almond cookies! They were so good! I have to go back there to buy more.

Brandi and Danielle went to hang out with some peeps at night, but Caroline and I stayed in partying and listening to Italian Mtv (which plays mostly American music). But after about 11, they play oldies, so it's a good time.

Thursday June 11
I had to wake up even earlier than Wednesday because Caroline had to catch a bus down to the train station at 7 AM #crycrycry. It was awesome having her here for a couple of days, and I am so happy she could squeeze the little town of Orvieto into her glamorous backpacking trip around Europe.

The benefit of leaving in the morning was that I was able to take my last picture for my assignment, and now I am done, happy days!
When I got back home I immediately went back to sleep and slept for a very long time.

Around noon Brandi and I finally got ourselves out of the house because we needed to buy toilet paper and we needed breakfast (yes breakfast at noon). We ran into Kim and his wife along the way, they always brighten my day.

My digital class was very unbearable and very long. Luckily Brandi and I went to get paninis before hand so at least I could stay awake.
Despite the class being unbearable, the good news is that I only have two more classes left! Which is also kind of sad to think about because that means I have two ish weeks left! I can't believe how fast time is going by!

Oh and get this people. I arrive in Phoenix on the 29th of June around 9 pm and then I'm driving to California at 2 am on the 30th.... talk about jet lag.... that should be one interesting time. But it's going to be a ton of fun!

Tonight the students are throwing a pre-game party before everyone hits up the bar. These are my favorite nights to just watch people... and to make sure my roommates don't do anything stupid (they wouldn't regardless of me being there though haha). Tomorrow there's a huge group going to the lake in Bolsena, so that should be very exciting!
